br4568hldrs 16
My custom hand built ash stock is on its final stages, and I was going to mount the working parts from my Remington but have decided to try and build my own!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone got any advive on where to get the parts? Searched the internet and not had much luck. And so far the cheapest solution I can find is buy a cheap SMK and use the parts from that. Any one got any advice/ know where to get the parts from/ Done or doing the same project? All welcome, James. Quote Link to post

garfield 23
if your going for pcp then DONT!! pls dont mess with compressed air but for a springer your going to have more choice but your gonna struggle getting barrels to match up with different air chambers and cocking linkages, but good luck Quote Link to post

If you read the thread properly, it sounds as though the guy wants to build his own action from parts! Thats why Garfield advised him to keep away from PCP's, were not talking 10-15psi of air pressure here, Most PCP's have a fill pressure of around 150-200bar (2000+ psi) and that can be dangerous The guy then goes on to talk about taking the action from a smk rifle, that would be easy enough, and I personally would advise him to do something like that Kyle Quote Link to post

zini 1,939
Well done on the stock buddy full respect to you for the time and effort. I think that the stock would look good with a nice PCP sat it it buddy. There are always really cheap broken PCPs going if you search the internet forums. A broken quality brand like Air Arms, BSA, Theoben, Daystate etc, (there are more, not to upset anyone)would be a really good starter to get someone who is good with PCPs to work on, someone like Andrian Waugh at A and M Custom Gunsmiths to build you what you want into the action and fix what was broken. Then you would have a full custom rifle that is exactly what you want. Just an idea buddy, but as folks have already said, i wouldnt start and mess with 190 to 220 bar unless you are totally confident in what you are doing. Best of luck anyway and keep safe Si Edited August 27, 2010 by zini Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Hi mate. Firstly, well done on the way your stock is looking. Good to see someone hand-making something special for his shooting. It does seem though, from the wording of your post; (quote; "Have decided I'm going to try and build my own!!!") that you intend to build your rifle from scratch from your own handmade components and currently, it therefore appears you've got a stock that is searching for an action. I salute your workings in making your own stock mate, and I hate to see negatives when a fellow sets out to make something, but, I can't help but wonder if you have put the cart before the horse here? I would follow Zini's advice and look for a restorable PCP action that you can fit without having to compromise, other than having to trim the woodwork to a proper fit. If that proves a no-go, why not consider using a Wiehrauch spring action, if it will fit? I found Hull Cartridge a pleasure to deal with when restoring a poorly knackered HW80 that's now a mint beauty to shoot. Good sound advice, a fully comprehensive easy-to-get parts range from barrels to mechanicals the lot, via your gunsmiths and it's top quality kit. It'll be a lot better and more rewarding for your efforts than fiting that cheap SMK! Quote Link to post
