Its a hard one pal! for a good few years people raved about the scottish peregrines being the biggest, this could well of been the case with the odd Indivdual birds but a majority captive bred birds from these lines wasn't always making the dizzy weights as portrayed, from a personal point of view some of the Captive bred birds originating from Welsh blood lines are the biggest I have seen so far...

Having said that there is nothing stopping Scottish Peregrines pairing up on a welsh cliff or vice versa, Peregrines by nature tend to wander about a fair bit and could pair up anywhere expecially youngsters looking for new territory, then again the more established breeding pairs usualy return back to their roots for many years.......

cheers jasper for that info, the peregrine is on the official crest of the isle of man, when a new monarch was installed in england ,it was manx custom to present the new ruler was presented with 2 "wild manx perigrines" not sure whether that custom still stands though i doudt it will.

what a cracking statement to a monarch to to be gifted 2 wild manx Peregrines :notworthy:.

there's a fair chance the same blood lines have nested around the isle of man for many many years useing the same old eyrie's, it must be a wonderful sight to see the youngsters playing in the sky honing their hunting techniques...

we don't realy see any in this part of the country, I have seen the odd one pass through over the years but very seldom....

jasper your so right its a privilidge to watch the young , they dont half make some noise when flyin with there parents thats the give away really cause most of the sightings are through the young screamin, the pair im seein at the moment have 2 young, yes they use eyries i have known for 20 odd yrs, havent yet but would love to witness the adult passin/releasin live prey for the young, difficult now a days to watch nests the authorities would be down on you like a ton off bricks and rightly so to be sure no one tampered with them, yrs ago i watched the nests and also found a hen harriers nest and use to go and watch them but couldnt do it now ,as i say im a dog man so no real knowledge off bop only watching them.

No one can stop you watching the nest as long as you don't interfere with it. I used to watch the local peregrines near my old house. Once in four years did I actually see the adults bring in live prey for the youngsters to chase. The famale came in with a pigeon, called the youngsters up to her then released for the young birds. recaught and repeated the act. Fantastic to watch and a privilage.

lived on the island all my life bar a couple of yrs , never been on the calf , though its somethin i would/should look into doing, a mate spent a week there last summer i think it was buildin stone walls , he was watchin the peregrines (probably the s you ringed mate] said he had some real up close views, i know its not illegal to watch a nest but the s i know you have to get quite close unless you have aboat, and i think i would attract unwanted attention.crowhawker, would you know if the birds you seen/ worked with on the calf where in size any different to else where in the uk.

I'm enviouse of you guys being able to watch the wild Peregrines! we don't see them in this area very often unless just passing through...

a couple of Pals took some nice Parent Reared Tiercels from here a couple of weeks back, the pair of them should make them into good hawks so I'm looking forward to getting out with them and seeing how they turn out, Chris S rang the other evening to let me know his is coming on a treat, I'll hopefully be able to get some pictures up soon of their progress...

STUNNING birds jasper.never got into falconry i think its got to be in the blood to be honest, people have a brief go at things but if it aint in the blood its soon on too something else, see it with dogs, ferrets and suppose the dedicated of you falconers see it with bop, i suppose like most things you only get out what you put in , but as with anythin the rewards become greater the more you put in.
