Mrs A.R.D 53
you just have to wait its quiet a common thing in GSD's the thing with the epilepsy drugs they are toxic so if your dog only fits now and again no vet will give you med's for her. what kind of fits does she have? grand mal or peti mal? The diet can play a big part in controling epilepsy.

She is fed once a day, 1 tin of pedigree chum in gravy with tesco premium complete dog biscuit, do you think her diet may be linked to her fits???? If so what would u recommend feeding her???? Im sure all of the above can contribute to dogs that fit, but last night when Sadie fitted i was on the telephone and Sadie was on the sofa relaxing???? So in this case none of the above, but thanks for info.

Dawn B 212
Well Pets at Home MAKE Wainwrights food so Im not surprised they recommended it!! If she fits once every few months, Id be happy with that in an epileptic dog. Your vet is right not to want to medicate her, many wouldnt hesitate. Give these people a ring, they are super and will be able to help and advise you. http://www.canineepilepsysupport.co.uk/ This is also a good site. http://www.canineepilepsy.co.uk/

Controling the diet and exercise and finding out if there are any triggers to the fits will help you find a way of living with it but she will probably end up on medication because there isnt a cure for inhereted epilepsy. how long has she suffered with fits? Sadie had her first fit when she was 8 months old but she didnt have another til she was 20 months, now it seems she has them every couple of months they last for up to 10 to 20 minutes. They seem to happen when she is relaxing!!!
bunson 6
Hi Mate, I had a dog that did the same, I was told to try a dog food with no maise in it, has it causes them to overheat. it definately worked, I think it was a skinners food, she very occassionally had a small fit but she grew out of them by the time she was 3 yr old. Good luck mate its very distressing.
liftboy1 0
I dont know much about german shepherds but my mate had a boxer that used to fit about once a month and after a while It got severe and more often, and he had to have the dog put down. I do know that a diet of good quality food helps. To be honest my dog is fed on dry and gets tripe now and again. I really wouldnt want to say anything about pedigree on an open site.........
