rabbit for dogs

Recommended Posts

hi all

does an1 no how to give your dogs rabbit, does it need to be cooked first?

regards steve

mine get them raw mate, gutted and skinned and frozen for a few weeks before being defrosted and fed, should not feed cooked bones really as they become hard and can splinter causing damage to the dog, possibly

This is what I do, gut, skin, head and feet off, chop in half, feed with couple of hand fulls of dog mixer, depending on the size of your dog, you may need to feed a whole rabbit with mixer if its a big breed.

Even a gutted rabbit may give your dogs worms especially if fed regularly. When i was catching good numbers of rabbits i generally froze them whole for a few weeks and then fed the complete rabbit raw with its guts,jacket......everything.My dogs are kennelled so the bits of fur etc that might be left over isnt a problem.I used to spend time gutting and skinning rabbits before freezing but now i dont bother. Its a very easy way to feed my dogs, cat and ferrets but it seems to do them no harm. They get fish once a week aswell and ive stopped messing about with them and just give them to the dogs pretty much as they came out of the water.
