hi do use think thats a good dog to buy for £100?

just to get started up and stuff? cheers

Hello...I like that strong Whippet type, but I'm not an expert hunter!

Sure some of the chaps on here will give you good advice....12 months is a good age to be starting this season, but you might not have the same bond you'd have if you got the pup at 8 weeks. Just my thoughts....good luck.

true about the pup thing  , but because its only a 1/8 bull you might not really get that much benefit in there. A 1/4 =2/8's would be a better choise for me, if you really want it in the whippet, you need a 1/4. There is a few on here bred that way great little lurchers.

12mths is a nice age, but only if it has recieved basic training and has good recall, is it from a hunting home or a pet home? bring it out with the owner prior to purchase if possible, walk it on a lead through stock and watch its behavior, bring it to a local park with the owner + get him to let it off lead and see what its recall is like, also watch its behavior around other dogs, is it going to be a housedog or kenneled, if its a house dog id buy or borrow a crate, might not be housetrained or could be destructive.

why is the owner parting with it? keep an open mind and take everything you are told about the dog with a generous pinch of salt!

Good advice, maybe with a bucket of salt is more like it.

As far as the breeding goes I would recommend a whippet as a first dog, uncomplicated dog that wants to catch anything that moves.

Benson there is plenty to choose from so dont be in any rush...The main thing is you get a dog that suits your needs ie, quarry etc.

I wouldnt personaly go next nor near the whippet bull as after stainlees outburst above :icon_eek: . If the dog had no vices then he wouldnt have a problem with you asking about it.

As i said above about not being in a rush its coming into the season so there will be plenty of pups for sale also plenty of saplings (Young dogs) ready for september its geting an unspoiled well bred one. Dont just jump at the first dog you come across take a good look around.

Stay clear of people who breed constantly. If your geting a pup try and get out with the sire and dam and see them at there trade.

As in this market theres plenty of people looking to take cash in exchange for shit.

Well benson im not mad on whippet blooded dogs they do make good rabbit dogs but there is plenty other crosses just as good. 3/4greyhound 1/4 collie would be a handy cross for you easily trained and make handy rabbit dogs.

Well keep an eye out in the classifieds on here but be carefull what you go for as im sure a few gangsters slip through the net to that section or your local adds or try and get in with some hunting lads around you they could know of a good well bred litter off decent dogs.

Have a look through a few old threads on lurchers and running dogs have a look at a few different crosses.

Best age you can get to get going this season would be a pup 10mths or so as you can get the dog going yourself and it hasnt bein spoilt.

If your going breaking the dog to ferrets your better off with a pup or one that has bein properly broken to ferrets.

You might also come across a dog that has worked some part of previous seasons and they could have a genuine reason for selling but there slim to none as good genuine dogs usually end up with mates of the owner geting rid but the odd few do turn up from time to time under genuine circumstances.

Terrierman...I don,t mind answering any questions about the dog,I answered every question Benson asked me truthfully, I don,t tell lies nor am I evasive.I objected to Benson putting up pictures without my permission, he apologised and thats fair enough.
