stealthy1 3,964
Yo you air gunners, what sort of season have you had? My season seems to run from Setember to Septemer because of the ferreting season. Are your guns performing as you had hoped? There seems to be a wide range of gun makes that we are happy with on this section, just wondered what your general thoughts were on our sport, good or bad? As we seem to be veiwed as second cousins to other forms of hunting, even though we seem to bag more Your thoughts are? 2 Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Pretty shitty really old buddy, but thats due to the wife not my shooting Seriously, I've knocked over plenty this year and pulled off some pretty good shots (if I do say so myself) that were either long range or tricky due to obsticals such as gravestones, trees long grass etc.... I'm still happy with my baby and I am proud of the way my Marksmanship has improved for much longer shots after being inspired by other regs such as you, Davy, Si, Bill etc........ As you know I have a couple of young ferrets, so may give them a job when it gets colder but I'll still be a shooter first and foremost The worst part about airgunning IMHO is that there are still way too many tossers out there (even though they are a minority) that give the rest of us a really bad (and unjustified) name. falcongit 242
hi mate.my season hasent been great but i enjoy it alot if it wernt for work i would get out more, and talking about tossers there was a kid shot in the neck up my end the other day,a bloke has been arrested for it and the kid has had to have a op to remove the pellet but doing ok,but it doesent give our sport a very good name as phantom as said to many tossers not doing it safeley and in the corect areas where you have permission to shoot,i think everone who owns a air rifle should have insurence for this reason even though most of us are profenial shooters. sym. If I remember correctly; it was the lads father that did it Total F king Idiot Accident maybe but we all know that accidents like this CAN and MUST be prevented. The police arrested him then bailed him so he could get to the hospital to be with his son. Phantom Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
Garf; If the weather is to continue as it has been so far this year, the kits will be out all year round again. Remember my cemetery posts from the past? Kits were still being born when there was snow on the ground The bunny populus is expanding something rotten country wide wich is of course good and bad for us Good = more bunnies for shooting Bad = Land owners are going to get someone else in to either "Help us out" or replace us. I estimate that I shoot 1 in 4 bunnies that I see, apart from on virgin land, where they just sit next to their mates and say "WTF you playing at" to them as they wave g'bye. Giving me an opportunity for knocking that one over as well Phantom Edited August 21, 2010 by Phantom Quote Link to post
garfield 23
i'm always in 2 minds about still shooting kits at this time of year but they usually get a chunk of lead cos of the damage they are doing, but i tend to leave em if they are close to a hole, god knows i've lost a few that way but i did find 2 the other week snuggled up stone dead in a bolt hole after my mate from germany shot em was nice to actually find em after they break danced into a hole Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
was nice to actually find em after they break danced into a hole I've found that shots to the head on kits causes them to flap about way too much even when their brains are hanging out the other side of the head The younger they are the more they do it. It looks quite disturbing don't it? So now I go heart and lungs for the very young ones; stops em dead they may run a couple of inches but they go down and they dont flap about. garfield 23
didnt want to body shoot em with .177 but i am awaiting my bsa hornet in .22 so it wont be a problem Quote Link to post
stealthy1 3,964
Its nice to see everyone's happy with their lot, I've had a bit of a slow season due to one crisis or another, but I'm quite chuffed with my results, I've had plenty to go at, and added a bit more land to my permission slip pile, which is always a good thing, jobs a good'un 1 Quote Link to post
chameleon 26
My season has been good, got a lot done, I have most of the small niggly bits of land sorted, and saved all the big easy warrens for ferreting this season, so fingers crossed, this ferreting season looks like it could be a good one Quote Link to post
