Alan Clark 7
After a couple of weeks without going after the rabbits I finally got out again on Wednesday. Spent the weekend helping Matt Hooks & my sister move and also use his chrono to check my rifle. It averaged 11.1 ft lb, 595 to 600 fps with 14.2 grn RWS Super H Point. My cousin spent the night with us on Tuesday and taking her back home was an opportunity to bag a few more bunnies. With the changable weather I decided to drive round the farm. And this time I remembered to take my camera with me..... A quick drive round showed plenty of evidence of rabbits but few stayed put for long, I guess it is the familar sound of a 20 year old diesel engine. The first one which stayed longer than it should had a close escape, at first I thought it was a good solid hit but with it got straight back up and legged it. I continued on and in a different field spied a fairly yound rabbit sat by a holly bush. It did a good backflip and disappeared from sight. So I walked over and found it had landed in a hole full of muddy water, just a pair of back legs sticking out. This is it after I fished it out and where I took the shot from. After deciding it was a bit on the small side I left it for the fox. Next came another young bunny which overstayed its welcome, it rolled over and waved bye bye. Another lap of the farm revealed a slightly older rabbit sat under a clump of trees in a dried up pond, it was on about my zero and slightly down hill so I aimed low and thwak bunny back flips and barely kicked. The second photo is of where it was sitting. After that the weather had improved so I took a walk onto the less accessible area, an area of made ground (inert landfill from construction projects, road cuttings and the like) covering a good 7 acres which is near impossible to drive on. The little critters were everywhere but none stayed put long enough. Up in the top corner is a pair of ponds, earlier in the year I'd seen a few rabbits there, there must have been a good twenty or so but they scarpered through the fence on the neighbouring farm's land. One sat there in range, so annoying. And one which got away, missed it completely. Edited August 19, 2010 by Alan Clark 1 Quote Link to post
