vinnie 3
i,ve been using b&f for the past 16 months with over 250 digs to it last season. the previous season i had slightly less digs and munched my way through six deben collars and four boxes!!! says it all really, also no probs on small dogs, dig regularly to a tiny bitch with no probs. a good reliable, sturdy bit of kit well worth its money. Bailey 16
Looks to be very sturdy as well and in all the reports from very experienced dog men who have used both systems they have very little or no complaints. Quote Link to post

LAKEYDUGS 0
I have been using the B&F from the start of this season and it's the bollocks once you get used to using it you will never look back also has came in handy on digs that the MK1 2 & 3 would have failed. Well worth the money and could be a good xmas present get the missus to get the purse out ha ha Gash Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
I am a bit old fashioned and a bit tight too, out of necessity. The Bellman and Flint Locators I have been told are good. I have a problem with somebody using an already established idea, mixing with it a little and asking more than the original actually costs. The B&F Locators are the Pieps Avalanche ones, which have been around for decades, the Collar has been made smaller, but the idea and mechanics are the same. They can be bought, as is, from the Web cheaper than the B&F ones. I know a good Terrier is worth it's weight in Gold, which is the sales pitch for these Locators, but there is that little niggle inside me about the ethics of the B&F guys. I am not totally inflexible though and would use one if it was the 'Dogs Bollox'.The new Deben mark 3, that is around £200 with one Collar and most guys should always have two Collars. As you can see it is up there in price with the Pieps one. Which is the superior one? I have the mark 1 Deben Boxes and Collars and often get interference from buried Fence Wire and Metal in the general area I am trying to 'mark'. Power Lines overhead also cause problems. The combination of the interference and wind and rain makes digging to a Dog 'interesting' to say the least. Obviously both Locator systems have far more range than anything so far, the mark 3 having around 40 feet range and the B&F around the same in digging range. I do not want to spend my money twice and have to try to get rid of one or the other. I am considering getting more spares for my mark 1 Locators, but won't if my money can be spent better elsewhere. Anybody got any thoughts on either of these Locator systems and are they Miles apart from the mark 1 Deben? I know this may have been asked before, but fresh opinions would be gratefully recieved, especially as both have probably been used quite extensively by now, especially the B&F one. well i have used mine for 2 seasons.they are very god and i use them on earths that have electric fences running over them and suchlike. They are the future of terrier location and well worth the money IMHO. I never had a collar fail yet due to water or damage, whereas i was going through several of the shitty deben ones a season before. The boxes too are solid, waterproof and easy to use. you will never go wrong with a B+F. one way of looking at it is : have you ever seen a 2nd hand B+F for sale?....i havent. Surprised you are asking being such an experienced terrierman ? did you ever manage to sell those 23 puppies you bred? good hunting. JD Quote Link to post
Shamo 319
Why the two questions at the end of your Post J Darcy? Yes I am an experienced Terrierman, what has experience got to do with new technology? I haven't written any Books to prove I am experienced, is that it? I don't think I have Bred that many Terrier Pups in my life and only sold about 6 EVER. There seems to be some confusion as to why I am selling some stuff and the amount of Posts in the Classified section! £300 is a lot of money. I have to sell things to help get that money, If I want to get one of the new systems. I have a Mortgage, Wife, Kids, a Car to keep on the Road, blah, blah, blah you know how it goes. steezy 1
Thank you Wink hound for the response ! We Working with the Pieps and the Orthovox dogfinder this season and the collar and the sender is also not the smallest ! I think for big den´s the Pieps ( B&F , Orthovox ) is better ! We got an big Badgerden ( legally in Germany ) to work this season and spending more time to following the signal of the Pieps than we spend than for the dig ! With the Deben Mk1 we would´nt follow that quick but what i see and think is the Deben Mk1 is better for the small range than the big system´s ! Is the B&F also that save ( to come out direktly on the Dogneck were the locator is ) ? wich size are your dog´s and any closer pics of a small one with the B&F ? Thank you and Greeting´s Steezy Quote Link to post
wink hound 0
will put a better pic up tomorow. i wil be the first to admit that the system does look bulky and tricky but i can assure in working practice it is fine. due to the nature of my work my dogs get worked in a whole range of earths, some large to others that are very very tight, rooty and rocky. it has not let me down yet. if i was to make one improvment it would be to make the red plastic collor slightly more flexablle so that pushing on could be made a bit easier( a simple mod really). im not sure the collors need to be so big either, i havent needed to make new holes, but nearly all my bitches are on the last whole of the collor, you would need a BIG dog to use the first hole. have other people found this? happy hunting. wink hound 0
pictures as requested: mouse will vouch for the fact that this bitch maybe stocky but she is tiny!! a diffrent bitch slightly bigger but still not very big, just better pics this is not how the collor is ment to be worn, but in working practice where it always seems to end up, and imho makes little diffrence. as you can see despite the size of the transmitter it is still insignificant to the shape of bulk of even the smallest of bitches.
