Customising stock

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

Just read Sweeney Todds topic on custom stocks. As explained in another topic due to muscle damage in both biceps due to an injury years ago, carrying around a wh100 all night knocks hell out of my arms the next day. Good rifles but heavy. Reading Sweeneys topic prompted me to ask the question, if I custom the stock ie take a large thumbhole out of the middle it will lighten the gun. Do you think what I take out will be negligable regarding weight, would it be worth it, would it spoil it, more importantly will it unbalance the gun as a whole.

Sensible advice please.

Cheers

Not sure how much weight would go out or about balance.

There was a very good thread on balancing guns when I first stopped lurking and became an active member of the forum.

The Idea was that if your gun felt unbalanced, you would lay some strips of lead over the stock until you had it just right for yourself, then drill holes into the stock and heat up the lead (or roll it up whatever suites best) then place the lead inside of the stock to bring the balance back to your individual preferance :)

Simply superb idea from either Buster or Grim

Hiya Dillan.

Yes the HW100 is a heavy old tool to lug about.

Have you put a sling on her to help while on the move?

A bipod help's to, for static shooting.

Realy dont think you would gain any appreciable difference by cutting the stock about buddy.

Have you thought about a sporter stock, instead of the thumbhole, someone on here may fancy a swop?

The other option is to get a lighter rifle, no sense holding on to one that's to heavy for your needs, and the type of shooting you do the most buddy.

Hard choices mate, good luck.

Thanks for replies guys

Initially when I bought the wh100 it was my only one allround gun, since getting into it I realised the term `horses for courses` and invested in a bsa scorpion t10, this gun is more compact and I felt was more handy for snap shot shooting especially for rats, I now tend to use the wh100 for stalking and sitting/lying positions where distance and accuracy is needed especially for the bunnies which just seem to be just out of range. I have also taken off the strap and tripod from bsa and fitted it to wh100 for ease.

Hi Dillan.

Ill second that Tony mate.

Tha AAs200 is a brilliant rifle, it does everything a HW100 does, although build quality not the same, but at half the price, fantastic bit of kit.

If Im sucessful with the stock Im making for it, I may even get another, but in .22.......love em.
