byron 1,189
The EU health card covers all medical treatment but the Greek hospital have told this woman that they cant do the operation she needs, so the money is for getting her back to a UK hospital by air ambulance. The EU card doesn't cover this. Me and my missus have been on motorbiking holidays all over Europe for the past 10 years with just this card as insurance, I'm bloody glad now we didn't have a bump.. how do ya fancy morroco!!! I've always been under the impression that the EU card covered you in the EU, never realised it didn't cover getting you back home. Mind you, we always had vehicle recovery, so we could just have sat on the wreck in the back of a lorry I suppose.

MuttleMcTuttle 21
It is a very tragic story and I feel really sorry for the couple... Having to pay to get home is really rubbing salt in the wound. I'd imagine it's certainly not impossible for a tallish lady wearing high heels to topple over a low wall, but does it really matter how the accident happened? Like a lot of other people, they assumed that the EU medical card covered them, an easy mistake to make when presented with a last-minute honeymoon when you have a lot of other things on your mind. I wonder how the poor girl's friends and family, who bought the holiday for them as a surprise, are feeling right now... Maybe they will all chip in a little bit more to help fund the flight home. I hope that people who feel the need to make heartless remarks never find themselves in a similar situation.
