Plenty of hornets about down south and it is meant to feel like getting a hot rivet stuck in you when they sting, they dont leave there sting behind though only bee,s do that as there sting is barbed,i had a mut stung years ago about 4 times on his stomach and he came to no harm but he hates the thing now and jumps a mile even if a fly buzzes near him.

Bless him.....Fen has been very, very concerned all afternoon about any flies near her...and as you say, jumps a mile if any come near her. I just bought a swatter.

I had the same the other day, i've noticed the odd hornet in the kennels, but always managed to get them before they have been a problem. Heard a short yelp the other day and went in to find my whippet had been stung on the leg and then managed to chomp in in half and was staring at it with absolute hatred. He staggered around a bit, but then had some food and seemed fine. b*****d things. Funny thing is he didnt swell.

A bee/wasp/hornet sting should be bread and butter to all dog/cat owners...its just basic common sense...the time it takes to seek advice on here could be time treating your dog/cat. It amazes me sometimes how people claim to be animal lovers yet dont know the basics of first aid..atb stabba

I'd administered first aid and contacted the vet before I posted Stabba.

I just wasn't sure on the correct dosage of Piriton and whether to give it to such a young pup ...I also thought it might be an interesting thread for others to read.

atb!!

Was just thinking about her last night and wondering if you'd found a home for her...your Mum sounds like a nice lady.

shes a bit of a loon, most people dont know what to make of her, love her to bits but dread seeing her coming towards me at shows or horse fairs.
