Seems the Goverment is discussing upping Shotgun to Section 1 - to tighten up their ownship

Citing to the recent Murder sprees where Shotguns was used

I have never really seen why I needed both certificates to be honest it would make more sense for my shotguns to be on my firearms cert with the rest of my guns, but I can see that would not be better for every cert holder

I thought one of the murders were carried out with an illegal shotgun, and the other one already had a section 1 anyway. I fail to see how this would of helped prevent either

I thought the same.........the cumbrian murderer had both a sgc and fac

and mr Moat had an illegal sawn off shotgun

I think we all need to write to our MP and explain why this wouldn't work

I struggled to get my shotgun certificate, so i doubt i would be able to find 2 people to act as referee's when i struggled to find 1............

I also feel that duplication is unneccesary......why when someone goes from holding a sgc to a fac.....dont they bin the sgc and put them all on the fac?? the law considers the sgc a lesser weapon and hence why the greater restrictions and extra hurdles to obtain a fac........but why do you need both?

But people like me who struggled to get a sgc due to not having anyone to sign as a referee.....would be put out of the market altogether if 2 signatures are required...and imagine the impact on the gun dealers.......if every shotgun needed to be put on as a restriction it would seriously reduce the market in shotguns.....thus damaging the economy even further and costing jobs and businesses ultimately

your dead right especially if the sale and purchase is made to work like a variation on a fac instead of just going to the shop with your cert it would mean applying to the fuzz for permission

See now, what you're all doing is confusing politics with common sense! If the politicians see the chance to win a load of free votes amongst the towny "mum's against guns" brigade, they will not hesitate for one second to shaft the living daylights out of the law abiding shooter, especially if we don't stand up and let them know that WE command a good proportion of the vote too!

The shooting community sat back after the tragic events of Hungerford, and got shafted. We sat back after the horrifying scenes in Dunblane, and got shafted again. Let's just hope that enough people will stand up and be counted in supporting shooting, so that the politicians don't see it as a cheap vote winner!

I certainly have emailed my MP about it, that reminds me I need to send a copy of the letter to BASC.

My girlfriends father is a JP, and knows his local MP very well. He seems generally supportive too.

Emailed my response to the inquiry today and also to BASC.

I did however think that some of the answers that BASC had put forward to the inquiry questions weren't that strong, some answers I personally thought were also not relevant to the question, especially as they were 'prompting' answers for consideration in use for members replies.

Hopefully those that have taken the time to send their thoughts to the inquiry, will have put forward their own well balanced answers to the key questions.

I couldnt find anything about this on the CA website, as i did want to see what they thought of the key questions.
