Return visit whippet in the dales

Recommended Posts

Up at one of the farms in the Dales again today. Me Nigel & Harry and the 2 whippets Fly and Dodger arrived to find lots of low cloud and a very grey day. We had a couple of large sets to ferret to begin with that we had seen the last time we were up on this place . We ferreted these with good results and soon had a few rabbits in the bag. As we walked up the fell we came across a ram in a ditch that had been on it`s back for a while. We tried to get it up on it`s legs but it didn`t look too good. A quick call to the farmer notified him of the ram , which he came up later to sort out,

We moved on , Dodger and Fly both working well and putting up some sitters which they ran and caught a couple of. Dodger was on fire today , working like a veteran.

We moved on to the main farm and again ferreted a large set we had left from the last visit, we did well out of this set with 6 or 7 bolting and all being caught bar one or 2 .

We moved on again and the whippets continued the good work , pushing rabbits out of the reeds to run. We soon had a decent bag of rabbits ,the only down side was catching a couple of rabbits with myxie but the sun had come out and it was really warm. We looked at a couple of last fields and sets and Fly made a great catch taking a rabbit as hit the wall , literally pulling it`s arse out of the wall as it went in

We had 23 rabbits and the sun was now blazing so we cut the day short and headed back to the farmyard where we had parked the Disco. We bumped into the farmer who was busy today cutting and baling his silage fields , he was well pleased with the bag and after a bit of craic we headed for home with 2 whippets that had worked their socks off for us

here are a couple of sequences where you can really see the distance these rabbits ran and made the dogs really work for thier catches. Excellent sport.

a cracking run by fly and Dodger with and excetional catch off Fly, this set has been ferreted on our last few visits and the rabbts head the same way every time for a great escape.

Fly used her great head to force the rabbit to turn before it made its escape to there usual place by cutting off and finishing with a nice strike.
