deanothehunter 34
anyone had any luck decoying woodies with air rifle ?......i was out the other day the landowner had cut the hay and it exposed all the warrens in middle of field so i thought errr easier to spot bunnies now so set up in the hedge 25 to 30 yards from the warren then waited it was,nt long before one popped out but he was close to hole so waited for him to venture further from safety it worked he moved a few yards then a .20 pest control entered one eye and exited the other he dropped where he stood so i quickly got him and went back to hide waited another 10 to 15 mins or so seemed much longer when another jumped out a hole being chased by another they chased around in circles then stopped and started to nibble it was getting late with only an hour or two of light left when a woodie soon followed by a second and then a third landed right within range 20 yards out to left of feeding rabbits sods law i thought shall i go for another rabbit or woodie? well i went out specificly for rabbits so bagged another the other ran down hole and all three pigeons took to the air thinking what the f*** was that, it got me thinking mmm decoys as there is no crops so to speak but thought well they were eating something where the hay had just been freshly cut plus i could scatter a few handfulls of grain around deeks....worth a try i think Quote Link to post
masmiffy 82
I had a go earlier this year on a field of peas. Set up just behind my house one evening about 6pm. Used a few dead birds for decoys and they worked a treat! Birds have to be feeding well and you dont get long on a shot! I managed about 7 and called it quits. If I had been able to use the 12G I recon I would have had 30 in the time I was there!!!!! Quote Link to post

Phantom 631
Go back a couple of pages, there was the same (or very similar question asked the other day) It certainly can be done. Dead Birds work a treat, also there is a useful tip regarding how they see in the Ultra-Violate Spectrum. I put a longish post on the subject a while ago, I'll see if I can find it and link to it. silentshot1 206
I freakin' love decoying pigeons!! It's all about getting feet on the deck and shot placement for us Air Gun types, far more challenging than with a 12g Howitzer! A real challenge! In your case, with an opportunity all ready there with the warrens, you could always drop 4 or 5 shells, 2 up right, three feeding, a few meters from the warren. Keep them about a meter or 2 apart and in no specific pattern except for approximately facing in the direction of the wind, if it's blowing, the real ones will want to join! Bits of advise that can help are 1. Try and use flocked decoys if you can get them, a bit more expensive, but far more realistic, scats do them at about £3.00 each, if you want to buy individually. 2. If you see pigeons over the pattern but not landing, or are jinking away at the last minute, move the decoys about a bit, there's something they don't like about it. 3. As many have mentioned, including Phantom to me, try putting UV pen on the decoys around the base of the neck and in flecks along the back. Attracted more to my pattern. If you get it right, pigeons will land at regular intervals from just after sun rise to an 1 - 2 hours before sunset. Good luck with it! Quote Link to post

silentshot1 206
If you time it right on a Saturday, you can get out before your shopping half realises and totally avoid John Lewis all day, without to many quiet patches, making you want to give up! Quote Link to post
