JohnGalway 1,043
Pillar & Glass bed, recessed crown, new extractor. Should be remembered I am definitely not the best shot. Hornady Vmax 40 grain moly 107 yards. Fouling shot went low to the right. Five group shots went into 0.5" Ten minute break to cool barrel, low on ammo, three shot group went into 0.4" Consistent clay busting session at 353 yards, corrected 11 inches up from my +1" @ 100 yards, corrected 12" to the left for wind, first shot was to check elevation, second and other shots went pfft pfft pfft pfft pfft pfft into clays. Outshot a Sako TRG .308 with S&B PM II, owner wanted my action & barrel in his stock. Gave me three shots with his, three dead clays! Moderator arrived at Ireland Custom Rifle (absolute spot on job, joy to do business with, highly recommended from me), phone rings come up and have it fitted when you can. Three days later... Recessed crown sadly no more... Cleaned with Hoppes Benchrest, Kroil mixed with Shooters choice. Bore soaked in Kroil over night, then cleaned again with Shooters Choice. Found some Federal Premium 40 grain non moly which I'd forgotten about. Got the rifle on paper, windage was good, guessed elevation & fired three shots. Proven to be able to shoot sub "minute of greycrow". Anyone got a cure for this headache? Made a little rear bean bag out of an old sock, some polypropelene (spelling) beads and a plastic bag, it helps. Quote Link to post

JohnGalway 1,043
Flukes... all of them What was it Napoleon said about good or lucky generals lol, as long as I can be consistently flukey I'll be delighted what rifle is that? remy 700? good groups thou what was the print at 350? Yeah it's a Remington 700 VL SS in .223. I didn't shoot any paper at 350 so I can't tell you, just shot the clay pigeons that were laid out Quote Link to post

JohnGalway 1,043
good good i looked in to getting a remy but i dont like the bolts on them. i like your song list on your sig, macalpines fussiles love it I tell you what you would like, when I was up at ICR I got to fondle a BAT action. Smooth is not the word, it's unreal, like it's floating. I think the action along was €1800 so too rich for me, but nice to have a feel off none the less! Some good shooting their John, I would be more than happy with that . You can look forward to some nice fox headshots then ! Thanks Dave, I'm quite conservative when it comes to headshots. The good thing about target heads is they tend not to move It's the sheep farmer in me, reluctant to take the chance of a miss when foxy is in the cross hairs. Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
good going john that is with factory ammo. just go's to show a little work on a rifle go's along way, my mate shot this with the tikka m595 222 ive got. it didnt like the cheap factory privi ammo i got for it. but that dont matter as i wanted the cases. 19.5 grains of reloader 7,cci br4 primes in ppu cases with 40 grain blizking done a nice job. not the fastest load in the world out of a 18 inch barrel but lovely and accurate. they say accuracy kills not speed alone easy covered by a 5 pence peice. not bad for a old 222 for 325 pound ! JohnGalway 1,043
I'll have to have a look at your rifle when I get back home PK. Not all that sure on full custom rifles, only starting to dabble in getting bits and pieces done, but I'm liking it a lot Quote Link to post
