bird 9,969
Why bother with any form of bull cross for rabbits!! ok there not rabbit dogs, but if you have been looking for other quarry, and we all been there ,where some nights you can draw a blank. If you see a few rabbits, you can (still) give the dog or dogs a run, better than nought. Quote Link to post

Lost Generation 93
i thinking of getting a bull cross but not sure which to get, would be grateful if anyone could let me no the pros and cons of differant x's, pics would be great too thanks What do you intend to use the dog for and over what kind of ground? These are the issues that should determine what kind of dog you get and if you can post this kind of information then you are likely to get more informed replies. Different types of lurcher come in and out of fashion. When I started in the early 1970's deerhound crosses were all the rage, then collie crosses came into fashion and to hear a lot of the bullshit around at the time you would have thought that nothing but a collie cross could possibly catch a fox or even a rabbit. After that saluki crosses got very fashionable and at the moment the bull cross is in fashion but there are many other types of lurcher that will do most jobs as well or better than most bull crosses. If it is only rabbits you are interested in catching then why not get a whippet a bedlington whippet or a greyhound whippet. If you want to course hares then you will be wasting your time and money with a bull cross and need to think about one of the line bred saluki blooded coursing dogs. If its an allrounder then almost anything that is 3/4 greyhound is likely to be able to do the job the job and my choice would be 3/4 bred greyhound deerhound or 3/4 bred greyhound collie. For a specialist fox dog, many first cross bull greyhounds are too slow to catch well single-handed and often have bad feet as well so go for a 3/4 bred bull greyhound or a deerhound greyhound which would be my choice. For a deer dog, go for a deerhound greyhound or a biggish saluki cross. My advice then is to provide a bit more information, keep an open mind and don't just be a fashion victim. 1 Quote Link to post
Terrier man 38
yea dont get any bull cross useless get a bedlington lurcher just do same job but find you more quarry Shows exactly what you know kid.... scottish carper ingram, It all depends what your going running them on.If your after an all rounder 3/4grey 1/4bull fit the bill . But if your after more testing quarry Half cross will do or even a 5/8Greyhound 3/8bull. Then again if your after one for looks then your better off with a nice big buck ferret as these dogs ar by no means pets. Quote Link to post
