Ferret food

Hey guy's,

 

Decided last night that I needed some food for Zeus & Aphrodite (my two ferret kits) and the fact that I'd had more words with the soon to be ex-wife and needed to take my frustrations and anger out on some living things legally So I wandered down the cemetery to lie up in wait and kill the first thing that showed itself.

 

Unfortunately the first couple of things to show themselves were not on my hitlist (or more to the point they are not on the GL's) the 1st being a lovely Robin that always seem to come to me when I'm in the cemetery. The second was at first I thought was a BIG rat until I used the scope and zoomed in at 10mag. The fast moving shape turned out to be a fully grown hedgehog guess that means summers over and the winter will soon be here

 

Before I knew it, the BIG little prickly fella had vanished into the hedge. I got the LRF out and he had been at out 50 yards.

Would I have taken the shot if he had been a Rat? damn right I would have

 

It seemed that all the bunnies in the cemetery were staying out today! the wind was initially squally, blowing from all different directions and then I clicked I had been playing with the kits before I came out and their musky scent was blowing everywhere

 

Eventually the wind calmed down to almost non-existant and the bunnies in the paddock were beginning to show themselves.

I walked over to the fenceline and climbed over to snipe at one of their entrances to Bunny Land (Mrs G's land) that I have permission for.

While I watched this particular run through the fence, there were what seemed like dozens (although likely only the two) of bunnies running from Mrs G's land into the paddock by about 4 or 5 yards then turning and running back. Even a click of my tongue didn't stop them from fecking about, nor did it slow them enough for me to draw a bead on them

 

I hung around until just before dark, when I climbed back into the graveyard and got myself positioned next to the central warren so that I could seen over towards the main runs in and out of bunnyland.

 

As it got dark, I just caught a "flash" from out of the corner of my eye. I had ranged the general direction of this to be 40 to 43 yards. Swinging my baby round to that general direction, I couldn't see anything, so a squeek from my lips and a dark outline of a young bunny stood up and my finger took up the 1st stage of the trigger.

A quick flick of the lamp saw a bright Jewel appear as if by magic on my illuminated crosshair. I placed the 1st mildot down on the sweet spot and without missing a beat, let the second stage go. Without blinking, I saw my little missile come into view of the scope zip along its little arc of trajectory and vanish as I heard a crack and the bunny did a barrel roll and vanished from sight behind a gravestone!

That crack I heard just didn't sound right to me, so I legged it over to where I thought my injured quarry was to be found.

I need not have bothered this is how I found the lifeless bunny

 

Here is the entrance wound almost a perfect 5.52mm spot of blood

 

The odd sounding crack was because the impact had hit low, but as you can see by the blood the pellet had travelled through the brain towards the ear on the far side of the head where it has stopped and this is where all the blood had come from.

An absolutely clean kill despite the less than surgical shot placement that I am used to performing. The range from where it fell back to the sniping point was 44 yards hence the slightly lower POI

 

I wandered around the cemetery for most of the night, with the occasional forray into the paddock but there was little about that I could get into range for.

 

Just before midnight I had gone back into the new section of the cemetery for a sit down on the bench. This area is pretty well lit due to the streetlamps on the road outside despite the 10 foot conifers around the graveyard.

A flash from the corner of my eye to the right where my wifes mom, dad and two brothers lay saw me without realising bring the mag on the scope down to 3.5 and the gun shouldered. I instinctively followed the running bunny through the scope turning at the waist when it suddenly came to a dead stop just before it would have jumped through the boundary.

As it did so I placed the crosshair 1 dot down and let off the shot. TWACK! and it was lights out bunny, a gentle slow wave g'night and that was another down.

and just before I set off home, I saw another little visitor to the cemetery, this must be one of this years young as it was only about 3 1/2 inches from nose to last prickle!

Excellent shooting there Phantom and at good ranges too! I still dont know how you can hang around a graveyard at midnight, but your getting the results!!!

Its not that creapy really, the people that are there are dead and covered with half a ton of soil each, so they aint gonna get up and complain about the noise levels or if I splatter blood over their marble or granite stones

My baby is set at 11ft/lbs with AA Fields. My scope is Zeroed at 35 yards.

 

I like to push the boundaries of my capabilities out to 60 yards for me is not a problem from the pod unless its windy!

Using my springer though, is a different kettle of fish entirely

nice shooting tony, good placement too, specially the second un mate, but we expect no less from you pal. spa for the write up buddy. funny you should mention the robin comin out every time youre at the cemy, they are very territorial for such a small bird, kinda like the jack russell of the avian world!
