gaz1980 0
Me and my brothering law have spent countless hours trying to get permission for shooting our air rifles over the last few months. Getting up at stupid oclock trying to catch the farmers out in fields. Knocking on doors and getting turned away sometimes doors more or less slammed in our faces. Just over a week or so we had a camping Trip heading up to the dales, then lake district for a night and then over to north yorkshire. From start to finnish it was a nightmare it started raining the second we left home and was consistant through out the three days away. We hit farm after farm with no joy, some took our numbers and said they would call if anything changed in the future but we didnt hold out much hope. The Third day away i was loosing all hope and thought i would message lamping off this sight to see how he was doing. It turned out he had already messaged me to see when i was free to meet up for a spot of shooting up his neck of the woods. I quickly messaged him back and it turned out he was going out that night!! Wicked i thought so we had an hours and halfs drive to meet him at the location. This was what we really needed at that time, hope was gone and i was looking at my rifle wanting to smash it with frustration. The land we were shooting on was a great size lots of Quarry about the place although it wasnt the greatest night for lamping we really did enjoy it. We both shot our first 22 rimfire ( cheers mate for that ) which i really have picked up the bug for now. The smell of the gun powder, the range you can shoot at, the sound of the impact BRILLIANT. I enjoyed it that much i have since started to fill out my shotgun and FAC forms. Anyway the morning before the shoot we visited a property in North Yorkshire which is an abandonded sports ground/camp site. We had been trying to catch someone here on numerous occasions with no joy. This morning there was someone doing maintenance on the grounds. Great we thought, we went over and had a long chat with the guy, he explained that his boss didnt want people on the grounds but appeared still intrested. He started to ask what rifles we had so i offered to show him. He seemed to be on side by the time i had finnished showing hima and requested my number which i gladly gave him explaining at the same time that we are both insured and would be more than happy to follow any rules. Gary explained he would phone us the following monday. Monday came and no phone call, typical i thought. A week has passed and i was working nights last night, my phone vibrated this morning i took a look and noticed it was Gary " Gareth could you please give me a call its Gary from " !! I have never ever jumped and woke up so quick in my life, gave the chap a ring and true to his word we have permission. There are rules the owner says someone must be on site at all times when we are there, thats no problem. Paying them our first visit tomorrow for a couple of hours. Im 30 next and feel like a little kid, sad i know!! Think the thing is just stick with it if shit doesnt come off for you first time. thanks for reading Edited August 16, 2010 by gaz1980 Quote Link to post

gaz1980 0
Thank's guys. Just been up late afternoon bit of a drive for the sake of an hour and half but excitement got to much for me. Met the ground keeper and spent abit of time walking around and having a coffee with him. The permission is 19 acres roughly not huge but not to small. Plenty to have a go at he reckond theres a good couple of hundred around the place. Not much out today with the weather, not been great but seen a pheasant and a hand full of bunnies. The guy had found a few nets this morning it turned out someone had been poaching this morning. We left without having a shoot but got everything finalised. Looks like after a few visits we will be able to go up and shoot without the owner and can use FAC. Planning on going back in a few days or next week to have a day session there so will update then.
