help and advise needed

not sure if its the correct method but i have heard about putting a lit-fag on the tick and it will let go.

never had ticks to try any method soo maybe wrong

Yer works in some cases but do you really think you got a steady enough hand to dab a number of ticks on your ferrets face with a lit fag? It's going to end with a burnt ferret and a bitten finger! As for all the folks knocking frontline etc - well i fully agree that the vets and anti-biotics are overkill unless there is an infection developing, but frontline is really handy, one of my jills recently ended up covered in tics - one day she suddenly had them all over her body, going over her with a tic remover would have been a nightmare, and i would have blatently missed a few, but a few sprays with the frontline and massage in with some rubber gloves, took a couple of mins and next day all the tics were gone!

Aye.

If one of your kids had a tick would you burn it with a fag,,or pinch it till it breaks of ??? I dont feckin think so.

Just beacause it`s a ferret does not entitle it to any less standard of care.

Use front line if ticks are very small, or wait till they are a wee bit bigger and use an autom tick remover or similar.

All this hard man talk of fags and pulling them of just shows ignorance.

If ticks aren't removed correctly or are covered in Vaseline . alcohol . burnt with cigarettes the tick regurgitate's the contents back into the host whether human or animal ... if that tiny tick is infected with one of the tick Bourne diseases then its highly likely that the host will also become infected

Simply using a tick picker & following the simple instructions of how to use it lessens or totally eliminates the chances of this happening

nothing to do with being a hard man, i promise you its very easy to remove them with just your fingers.

i bet there are vey few people here , that if they found one on them selvs would wait till you have a tick remover, or even wait till you got home, if you were in the field and found on on your body , you would pull it off streight away  f**k having one on me drinking my blood

im in merseyside. found them on the net for around £4. might as well invest in 1 for that price. thanks for the advise

use a pair of toe nail clippers mate get them off straight away dont wait for the tic removers be delivered... Atb jon

definately ticks mate, but dont listen to this advice. leaving the heads in is when it gets infected. a few days isn't going to hurt, plus they will have grown so will be easier to remove. have a good check all over the ferrets, paying particular attention to behind the ears and in between the toes, when they are all removed bleach the hutch out and change all bedding before you put your ferret back in.

mine have only ever had a few ticks and allways used toenail clippers dont cut it off at the root get a firm grip and just pull.. ive never left a head in yet.. so until you try it don't knock it.. but if my advice is not needed i'll leave you experts to it... ATB jon

I have, over the years ,removed thousands of ticks......i have also found using frontline to be the best soloution, i purchase my stuff from the vets as its available in a larger pump action bottle that is more cost effective...for all those that advise applying it liberally and giving it a good rub in id suggest trying the method i use..,simply saturate a cotton bud and gently wipe over the tick, not only does it use less of the frontline liqid but it also reduces the chances of causing skin irritation due to application of exessive amounts in one small area, atb
