Ideation 8,216
I had this problem recently and got a great spray from my vet, one of my jills had a pretty bad tick issue and spraying her with this stuff and rubbing it into her fur with some rubber gloves and the lot died and fell off by the next day. I'll get the name later. Quote Link to post

Atb jon surely with clippers your just cutting them at the thorax, leaving the head in and risking infection, waiting a few days aint gonna hurt any Quote Link to post

Atb jon definately ticks mate, but dont listen to this advice. leaving the heads in is when it gets infected. a few days isn't going to hurt, plus they will have grown so will be easier to remove. have a good check all over the ferrets, paying particular attention to behind the ears and in between the toes, when they are all removed bleach the hutch out and change all bedding before you put your ferret back in. THE GRIFF 8
One of my ferrets got a tick a few weeks ago between his toes, he pulled it out himself but I took him to the vets anyway to make sure the head was out. The vet give him a shot of anti biotics just to stop any infection and it was cleared up after a couple of days. One thing I would say if you are removing it yourself is make sure you remove all of the tick and keep an eye on the wound for a few days, if the wound doesn't look like its getting better, get a shot of antibiotics for it from the vet, an infection caught early will save alot of discomfort and money in the longrun. Jamie m 668
Just go to the vets without the ferret , cos if you don't have the ferret with you they can't charge you a consultation fee can they , that's what I do if it's not serious , get the frontline put it on no more ticks and you will have more than enough frontline for the coming season but as many are shortly about to say when they rea d this it's strong stuff don't use to much or it will iritate the ferrets skin , you can tell if you have used to mch as the skin will go pink . TOMO 26,591
FRONTLINE, VETS, ANTIBIOTICS. its a tick and quite easy to remove with just your fingers, get a good hold with your thumb and index finger and pull it out..............simmples ive never left a head in , even pulling one of my daughter when she was about 4 now for a few quid as you say the tick removers are a good buy but you realy dont need frontline, and deffo not antbiotics, they should only ever be used when needed ,...... not just in case. dont get me wrong its nice to see you care about your ferrets and i can see you have there best intrests at heart Quote Link to post
