DeanD 3
Just to add my pennies worth. It has always sickened me how many young adult or fully grown lurchers you see for sale, yes some genuine, but most whos owners just want to try something different or give up too easily. It really does boil my blood. I can't understand why people just don't research what dog they need, buy the dog, enter it properly and stick with it until its days are over. I have had a few different dogs and not one that failed me or was shit. Yes they have had set backs but you have to work through these. I can also never net my head around these hard talking machos if it dosn't make the grade it won't be in my kennel it'll get a bullet etc etc...........most of the fault in my eyes is in the owner....and only a very small percentage down to the dog. from what you have said straight away i can tell that you would keep a sub standard dog! in my opinion that IS the reason why theres so much shit about and why the jackers are bred off! it isnt matcho its the RIGHT thing to do. no it isnt nice but its for the best if you cant find a pet home where you know it wont be bred off, people need to get off there high horses and consider weather they work there dogs hard or just sit on the sidelines watching and listening to there (heroes) in books or on sites like this messsaaaa Sounds like i hit a raw nerve there. I bet the ratio of failed dogs that get passed on is alot higher in individuals like yourself, than more experienced hunters who have lived listened and learned. Plus i never have and never will breed a litter. And one things for definite people who treat dogs like throw a way tools can kiss my Ar@e. I agree that more shite is passed along among most supposedly serious doggers, I've received a few myself from people perceived to be "the real deal". Its just human nature, nobody likes to put a dog down that is trying. Not everyone has the same expectations or may have more patience than another. Some simply don't like "the style or how" a dog works, I had a gyp given to me once because she folded her legs and feet under her when she entered and crawled through that way too... she was just small and so she could. She died working, I thought she was a decent terrier. When she died I nearly gave up hunting with terriers. I've had equal amounts of shite sold to me as I've had given to me. It goes both ways... you take your chances and hope for the best. World beaters? I've yet to see a dog work as well as reported on any forum, regardless of Whose dog it was. Shite comes in all shapes, sizes and colors, diamonds in the raw lack the luster of a cut stone... some are just turds, they come from Every line, any dog or bitch... if you polish a turd its still a turd. You take your chances from any line or crossing, anybody that says anything else IS Selling period. Once you have a dog that suits your needs or wants, anybody would be hard pressed to buy it from you IF they could. Why would anyone sell their dog(s) if they are so good. It doesn't happen, plain and simple. Pups, sure they'll sell or give them but just because said dog or bitch is good doesn't mean a g-damn thing... grandparents have more to do with it than immediate parents. Parents could be total shite yet produce Excellent workers etc. jmo... go with your gut rather than somebody's strut. Quote Link to post
ian 1 36
everyone is knocking people who have bred dogs ,but most of you have brought a dog or pup off of them other wise you would not have the dogs that you have now , Quote Link to post
WILF 46,786
theres a chap round our way had over 100 dogs in a season ,,,,,, over 100 , and they were all the best thing going , sometimes there are genuine reasons why dogs come up for sale , but to be honest they are few and far between, the good dogs stay close , to friends or lads that have seen the dog work its all about money ,... people exploiting the fact that others cant wait for a pup to mature or cant be bothered to put the time in and make it their own , ... happy hunting xxx Just so I am clear, you are saying he had a different dog every other day? embod 7
The season is just about upon us and yet theres dozens of dogs for sale..whats the craic there then? All still with the same old excuses of ..its too big..its too little...ive been kicked out..ive split with the missus. Bet within a month the folk parting with em will have got another dog on. Ffs when you get a dog all these things should have been taken into consideration.Get a grip lads. Also it seems to be the same old faces doing the selling...rant over...atb stabba ho the great stadda has sopken. If my momery serves me right it wasnt to long ago that you your self was looking for a fress dog to take on if it wasnt for poeple like your self looking for dogs then people wont be breeding them to sell on and yes it wasnt to long ago that i was selling some pups as the bitch had 10 pups witch 6 were given to good honest pals with working homes and 2 keeped back for my self . Dont get me wrong im not saying its right that people are pedling pups and dogs but you need to now the real story befour posting stupid comments all the time. thanks alb Quote Link to post
DeanD 3
What I hate to see is dogs sold having "known diseases or illnesses" which are passed on genetically... those are true shite, and if the dog or bitch works well especially it will be sold to someone whether the buyer knows or not of the problem. Those are some real good dogmen there, one's you can definitely trust. Chest thumping is fun to listen or read but it says nothing of a dog or its breeding of which genetics really should be considered don't you think? How many sighthounds do you know that are sound sensitive, when I was a kid I called it "gun shy" because thats what many dogs would run from. But that isn't all it is... some dogs will run and or hide at the faintest sound of thunder, long before it can be heard by humans, definitely not the type of dog you want to take anywhere unless the weatherman is spot on with his forecasts. People used to say give me the ugly dog, well just because a dog is ugly doesn't mean its a good'n either. Been there and done that too. But they sure were ugly. Lurchers... now this is interesting. I have them also, but I'm sure there are many very good and rightly respected breeders of world class hunting dogs out there that would and Do complain because many self acclaimed dogmen "are creating designer dogs" and they would challenge that they are nothing more than mongrels. Careful how you complain about people breeding dogs... a sword cuts both ways. Don't lump the selling pups into the catagory of "peddlers" or "puppy mills"... or are people worried they are cutting into someone else's peddling profits... perhaps someone that supplies some of you with dogs regularly? Dogs you read glorious statements about today will be the trash talk of tomorrow... the next generation of dogmen will ensure that. Anyway, jmo... go thump your chests and tell us how only you and/or your friends are capable of breeding good dogs. I'm sure someone on here will mark your words for the future.
