My ugly duckling...

Recommended Posts

Isn't it strange how some people judge a lurcher by the sighthound 'standard'. In other words, if it doesn't look like a Whippet, Saluki or Greyhound etc, then its 'ugly'. Give me a dog with good thick legs, a sturdy body and a brain any day: look forward to seeing how he comes on. Keep us posted.

Thanks Skycat, compared to many even my other dogs he is rather unsightly lol but as long as he earns his corn that'll do for me,he has been a "type" i've been looking at owning since i had similar several years ago, they too weren't the best of lookers but they could fill the bag and then some :ninja: ..he's from a long line of Minshaw bred's back to a Border Collie from Ireland who is used daily for working cattle although when he and his littermates were just seven weeks old the dam won the County Wicklow Sheepdog Trials so he is from decent stock...he has one or two little problems what need ironed out but hopefully these will lessen as his workload increases? Here's a little "family tree" kind of thing going back a few generations or so,some will know one or two of the dogs here including Minshaw's Blue and perhaps one or two more?

May be a coincidence, but I have seen a very impressive 17 month old bitch working in Wicklow last week and I understand that her father is an English dog and her mother is a top class Irish border collie. The bitch was black, about 22 inches tts and is an excellent hare dog for her age. Did any of the litter come to Ireland.

Yeah, they were actually bred over there and the bitch is indeed litter sister to Don,the black dog i posted a picture of which i own although long retired now as he's 13 years of age gone June is their sire and the Collie picture i put up is their dam,i have heard that the black bitch is doing exceptionally well, fingers crossed Don doesn't let the team down over this side of the water ;) We'll see :victory:

i dont think that don is going to let you down, if anything i think he may open alot of eyes as what he is capable of, TOUGHGUY i also heard of that bitch, but i never seen her work unfortunately,i met your mates older brother some time back, :notworthy: if i am right there is a few of them in the family who keep them, they dont say out about them though :whistling: they seem to be well tuitored on that

Took the dog out a night or two back and he picked these up without too much fuss, missed quite a few through him being very keen, once he settles into things i'm sure he'll come up with the goods?

Just a snap of my young ugly duckling who'll be starting his first season of work imminently,i'm expecting decent things from him (lamping)..fingers crossed anyway! He's a dog consisting of almost 75% Collie make-up,seems to have ample speed, loads of drive in him, very atheletic and quite clever too..here's hoping anyway?
