LordGamebore 0
Hi, Thinking of getting an FAC for a PCP air rifle, however I have many different premissions with some in different countys. What's the likehood of getting an open cert first time around? It's not as if I'm applying for my own artillery peice. Cheers Quote Link to post
stubby 175
as a pest controller, I did, all you can do is ask Quote Link to post
Deker 3,478
If you can present the right case you will. Some areas further North/Scotland do seem a little easier, but if you can show the right need, attitude, etc, etc, you may. Not that easy generally but it happens! Quote Link to post
sureshot11 1
I did just ask they could only say yes or no. Edited August 16, 2010 by sureshot11 Quote Link to post

trapperman 474
I think it depends on your local police as they all seem different, as a pest controller i didnt get an open from the start in fact i had to fight to even get it at all. Just ask they can only say no. Quote Link to post

v-max 2
When you say open ticket do you mean for any land you have permission to shoot & invited placces??. If so it is easy to get an open ticket as all you say that you are out quite often looking for new ground or obtaining new ground etc so need FAC for all your permission & any other land obtained & or invited shoots easy shouldent be able to refuse you. willum 89
ive said excactly that to my f/o and he said i still needed to wait 5 years before applying for open ticket im out at least 3 - 4 times a week on average in some way or another but still dont work for me in my neck of the woods Quote Link to post

I think you will find this is a regional thing, no particular reason why it shoud be, but I do get the impression an Open Fac is easier to obtain north of the border! You really have to put a case, and then some, to get it Open on first grant in much of England! Quote Link to post
danebrewer10 6
as a recreational shooter, if you were applying for a cartridge firearm, then I doubt it, but as it's an air rifle, then I think you would, I have a FAC .25 air rifle than I can use wherever pretty much, but any new land has to be checked put by my FEO before using my HMR on it.... silver-fox 0
Dorset police won't make your ticket open until your first renewal, and then you have to request it in writing. Quote Link to post
jamie g 17
west mercia are pretty tough on open tickets. i had 22lr and hmr on closed with mentoring. then i asked for 22/250 and at the same time to have the mentoring took off the rimfires. got the rimfre mentoring removed but had mentoring on the 22/250. i ge tto go to my mates farms and get the odd bits of land which wasnt past. i wrote in a good letter and had letters off my mates saying i was safe and i had been out with them and they trusted i was a safe shot. and know how to handle the rifles in the right way. i asked for open then on rimfires and mentoring took off the 22/250 or cheeky even if i could have that open to. it come back with open on all of them. they where happy with my reasons and letters off my shooting friends. i also stated that the ammo i had used was only on vermin and not on a range. where anyone can shoot off 100's of rounds. imo 50 rounds from a centrefire in the field gains you alot more realtime in the field under field conditions instead of a range where your sat shooting in one postion Quote Link to post
