What is the best way of going about getting started in this sport? Right from acquiring a place to shoot at and something to shoot with.

not into shooting myself but id imagine workin your way in with land owners would be a start build up there trust shoot the pigeions rabbits first then work your way up to deer an fox's prehaps ?

Cheers for the replies, but don't you need to get ground and reasons for having a firearm? Would you get a .303 on the premise of shooting rabbits and if you did what would be left of the bunny.........

Nipper if i were you i would get into the learning side first. JOIN a shooting club and listen because statement like 303 will only get you laughed at. THERE ARE A GOOD FEW WAYS OF GETTING INTO DEER STALKING AND THE MOST COMMON I KNOW IS TO PAST YOUR DEER STALKING LEVEL ONE AND THE JOIN A SYNDICATE. IF YOU SEE ANY GERMANS THE 303 CAN BE REAL HANDY ASK MY GRANDAD.

GO DEER STALKING A COUPLE OF TIMES ON A RECOGNISED ESTATE AND USE THEIR ESTATE RIFLE UNDER "THE ESTATE RIFLES PROVISIONS ACT".Make sure you keep your paper work and receipts.THEN apply for your F.A.C.On your application it will ask for GOOD REASON for wanting a .243 .308 or which ever calibre you choose.Your answer is that you have been stalking X amount of times on so and so estate and you wish to get your own rifle. The law states that you have to prove good reason for owning a full bore rifle and (paying for stalking on private estates) is classed as good reason,hense your two or three previous visits to private estates.
