lucky 578
i've noticed that over the years the standards in working dogs are getting worse, there could be many reasons for this but i think the main ones are shows, the hunting ban, low standards and idiots who breed off anything to make money or simply for looks, shape, type etc. you only have to read through the classifieds on this site to see just how much shite is being bred off, young untested dogs etc. if both parents are 100% then there should be no reason for anyone to have to advertise any of there offspring on here, they should all be spoken for before there born.... a well bred pup should be at the top of the priority list, then with the right management the odds should be stacked well in your favour..... shepp 2,285
You've got that spot on Lucky, if only the very best available dogs were bred from then there would the right amount of dogs around for people who are dedicated to there dogs. Quote Link to post
tag 29
breeding from the right stuff is a must and entering a very close second , but what some people fail to understand is what their actually buying , yes the sire may be the gamest thing in the world and the dam the best coursing bitch going , but what will the owner of the offspring be working the pups on and more often than not , this is where people get it wrong , before choosing a pup the owner needs to be crystal clear in his/her owm mind , what is to be expected from that dog when its fully mature . there are a lot of dogs that are perfect at some tasks yet are not suited at others does this mean there no good , ........ no , there are some good allrounders , out there that will catch most quarry no problem , but to a terrierman , they wouldnt be given kennel space , a dog bred for a job , from the right stuff with correct entering is all the steps you can take ,and a bit of luck along the way always helps, happy hunting ................ tag 29
Good stock guarantees nothing.....but what it does do is gives you the best possible chance of producing something good.... You give said pups to 5 different guys with 5 different abilities to bring them on and if the worst guy gets the best pup and the best guy gets the worst pup, they'll probably come out about even..... Hope that explains it lol. some thing good , you would,nt buy a half x bull/greyhound out of well tested parents , and expect it to catch 3 out of 3 hares , pre ban of course , ive seen and owned good saluki/bull greyhounds that can kill on the lamp no problem, but would they make the best drawing dog , or would they make the best rabbiting dog , the quarry your running is an important factor to consider when buying a pup , hope that explains it Quote Link to post
