lucky 578
i think good breeding comes first, i would'nt waste my time rearing a dog bred out of shite...... 1 Quote Link to post
olddog 0
Nature X Nurture : start off with a well bred healthy pup and work you arss off training it. Given proper upbringing, good feed, and a little luck you might end up with what you want - then all you have to worry about is Illness, Injury, and Theft !!! NATURALLY well bred & NURTURED to perfection ! OldDog Quote Link to post
billy bronk 76
better chance of a dog turning out good,if its of proven parents Quote Link to post
mattyg 1,862
well bred dogs are like having a crash helmet on a motor bike.....you have more chance of success, but not 100% Quote Link to post
jamie2004live 163
in my experience if its running rabbit hare and deer pre ban it has a bit to do with breeding but mostly giving the dog the right opportunities when entering it and the ammount of time you have it out in the field, but if quarry that bites back is youre game then if its held back until the right age then tryed it has EVERYTHING to with breeding from the (right) stock Quote Link to post
Ryeuken 7
think i agree with LUCKY on this say your after a pup you know of two litters down one from a tried n tested line the other from good blood but parents are untried which would you want..? for me theres no question about it although i have seen some exellent dogs bred from shite but would never breed from them through fear of producing shite but your always going to get freaks in any blood if you take the pup from the proven stuff your deffenatly increasing your chance of succes all this said these good dogs usually have good owners that rear and run them on properly but iam sure like me most of you will know somebody who keeps there dogs poor and still end up with good dogs..! its these dogs i really feel sorry for regards RYEUKEN Quote Link to post

Everyone knows of someone who always has a half decent dog and we all know of the clowns who go through multi dogs and never have one. What I am saying is, no matter where you get your dog from, if you don't work it, it'll turn out shit!!! obviously by proven i mean i seen it graft mate dunt understand what you mean with " when can you tell if the dog that you think is from good stock isn't good just because of the owner?" romany52 313
Say you want to win the jackpot in a lottery, you get to pick a ticket from one of 2 boxes, one box contains nothing but winning tickets £10, £25, and so on. The other box contains all the loosing tickets, but the jackpot ticket can be in either box, which box would you take your pick from ? Same with dogs, you'd pick from the line with all the winning genes in it. You've a much better chance of coming out with a prize. Edited August 14, 2010 by romany52 1 Quote Link to post
captain jack sparrow 8
breeding goes along way with more guarentees out of tried and tested dogs Quote Link to post
CarraghsGem 92
maybe its because im not looking for a worldbeater in a lurcher + ive no interest in breeding or showing lurchers, but i believe strongly that IN LURCHERS nurture can produce many many brilliant dogs from those pups with no known breeding. im taking that chance with my 2; 3mth old lurcher pups + my 12mth old bitch. some folk just want a loyal worker to go out with 3-4 times a week to bag a few daytime rabbits + a few on the lamp. Mrs A.R.D 53
we have a lurcher out parents that havnt done alot just to prove that upbringing has alot to do with it. She does everything we want a lurcher to do and she totally outshines her parents and litter mates. Even the people we got her from would agree she's like that because of her up bringing, we've had her since 6 weeks old. atb Quote Link to post
