bobwood8 1
a lot of people on here always mention the breading of dogs and there full brothers and sisters and half's ... what do people think is it the breading or the up-bringing ?? Quote Link to post
Coneytrappr 30
Good breeding will up your chances of success but many a well bred dog has suffered and failed at the hand of an incompetent owner. And many a dog of average and nondescript breeding has gone on to be a good honest worker in the right hands. 1 Quote Link to post

You need the right basic package as for as breeding goes, good working parents, but to get the most out of any dog, he must get plenty of work , have seen slow half crosses catch more out than fast racey types, on the lamp now im talking bout, just because they had been round the block afew times,,It dont fully answer your question either, because it dont take a great dog man to give a dog plenty of graft, just an eager one,, Quote Link to post
Catcher 1 639
Go with Casso on this.IMHO You must put the work in.Give a young eager lad an average pub and sometimes they can work wonders with it.Seen a 15 year old take on his first dog.At two years old taking most quarry and obedience was second to none.At about three or four this little dog was doing fox single handed.Think Casso got it right. If you put in the graft most dogs will come good. fazza123 517
Ive paid silly money for pups from top breeding and they have made ok dogs purely cos i didnt put the time in like i did as a kid! Probs my best dog cost 36 quid(thats all i had on me) when i was 15 ! I had him out 4 nights a week all over the country as soon as i could drive! Them were the days, most we ever got was a producer if we got pulled off the smokeys now id loose my vehicle and have my pants pulled down royally !!! Quote Link to post
poacher3161 1,766
I agree that the upbringing and entering plays a large part ina lurcher but once the dogs up and running thats when good breeding and natrual ability kicks in and no matter how much work you give a lurcher imho they will never have the ability like a good well bred lurcher will have out of tried and tested dogs i know their is always an acception to the rule but i am of the appinion that good breeding counts for hell of a lot in getting an outstanding dog at the side of an average one. Top Lamper 2k10 169
its not always the breeding i have a bitza lurcher hes 5 now and its the best dog ive ever had lyk does evweything i want him to do and i only paid quid for him Quote Link to post
brother 10
a lot of people pay good money for top breeding purely and simply because they are lazy and think they will have to do less to get a competant dog. socialising , entering , experience and a good diet is whats needed more than breeding though Edited August 14, 2010 by brother Quote Link to post
jackson2kaii8 5
hate the people say what way is the dog bred and then they come out with names its all shi t talk and stupid money..!!its all in bringing up of the dog.!that just saying like oh i bought a pup for 500 hundred off good coursings dogs must be a good dog when its older no point of trainin him it will just come to him.!always need good bringing up onces its a well bred dog or not well bred.some dogs come out of bad breedings and come out the best of dogs if you dont put the time in it wont be good simple ass 2 Quote Link to post

I would defo say that the upbringing is most important although having a good breeding in a dog really helps you out, when i was younger i was flat out with my lurchers and can honestly say that i never owned a bad dog,i know of a few young lads that have really good standard of lurchers and it is simply because they are out on the land with them alot more than the average man has time for Quote Link to post
Romany 1,065
Both..you cant breed rats from mice..but who gets the pups can make a big difference. I bred lurcher for graft, and a couple did go to part timers who didnt get the most out of these dogs, in the hands of more enthusiastic hunters, I believe they would have made much better dogs.
