I genuinely think the biggest obstacle to over come is to give a reply that the person understands everyone's level of understanding very different ... its no good blinding folks with science if ther

They are in all the other sections - most of them don't like the idea of talking to other kids in the 'childs section' when they could post/read the other sections.

A lot of lads are reluctant to get involved with youngsters on a number of fronts.. Firstly we live now in a throw away society where seemly everything is desposable including dogs, now i know some of

Stealthy you have helped me a few times and I am much appreciated, With me I have learnt that each section have there own bullshiters and one thing I will say is that in the ferret section stealthy, kay and a chap called quixote who longer comes on here are bang-on. The problem I have noticed is instead of getting a repetitive question such as "when can I work my ferrets" or "how many ferrets to have" are very good questions but when the question are going on about what colour is the best it just bangs on then. Also just an update the guy wanting a gos has posted a question about tethering a gos, surely a question that is very silly as you should know that well before advancing onto a gos. Just my rant, As I`m fairly young I feel i come between the young-uns and the adults. I wont give up on them but I think we need to understand that we are hunting not showing our animals.

looks like the main prob with young uns comeing on is they are a bit lasy, wanting everything easy as,the same question keep comeing back all the time, they never bother to read through the forums, most probs are caused by just going out and getting a fert or whatever, without doing any homework on the subject,my fert bite, can i feed meat ,my dog poops, how do i shoot a rabbit,i want some land to take my dog to.or shoot on,i want some nets, etc etc,

we could maybe provide a sticky section with a variety of the most common, questions,we take young uns out often with the ferts, but lads of years standing wont be told of a young un who knows everything,,then there is the insurance, etc, not all but a fair few young uns have no respect for ther elders, just the way it seem s to be now,ive taken a few out,but i am very wary now,as regards back tracking, especially on the shooting front, got a young un to take out this year with the ferts, would like to take more but,its finding suitable peeps you can trust, same with the shooting, love it when they get their first, bunnies out of set or pop a few with the rimmy, well thats my two penneth worth, must of got out of bed on the wrong side this morning, mind you young uns do vary from site to site,on other sites i have supplied loads of advice and gear, for ferts and shooting, iwas lucky enough to get in with a cracking bunch of lads, for the ferts etc, even though i had by then sorted out my own land,so all in all its a case of just plodding along,i know its a disapointing road to getting your own land, but we all been down it,it very rarely just apears on a platter, and is gaurded vigourousley,ok,ian

ps,lot of peeps would rather help by pm,rather than open forum,ok

i found that when i was younger and still now (im only 23) its hard to find people prepared to help you out!

not because they are horrible people or any thing like that but i find that because all of our sports weather it be shooting, running dogs, terriers have been pushed so far underground people dont really know who to trust anymore :(

i find this a shame because youngsters now adays will ever be pushed away or scared away from contributed.

just my thoughts any ways :)

earth that is so true! im still only 23 and the temptations are always there still!

i also find that if you are from an inner city/town when your young (like i am) its harder to find like minded people out and about, there are some about but there hard to find, but that probally comes back to my first comment.

my advice to all the youngest would be ignore this site and get out there and learn it all for yourself like we did years before the internet came out!!! you learn from your mistakes alot better than the internet and time spent asking questions on here could be spent learning the skills needed in the field while in the field

im 25, i got all the wild crazy stuff out of my system already. grew up in town but travelled the world as a kid, my parents used to breed + show "miniature longhaired dachshunds" + are the kind of people who dont understand hunting + want to rescue EVERYTHING, i have had to learn about hunting from trial and error out in the field, only recently started to go hunting with others, learnt a lot from this forum but you really have to be able to filter out the bullshit.

Why not just set up a question and answer section...surely it would help not just youngsters but experienced folk aswell...should be easy to moderate also..atb stabba

That sounds like an excellent idea Stabba...I actually only joined THL to keep an eye on what my son was reading :o ...and have found it to be an informative and interesting site on the whole. He's just turned 13 and loves THL ...he's really keen to learn and has had great advice from some members, he's always chatting about it.

And the 'pinned' thing sounds a brilliant idea Tracey....really easy to access and one doesn't have to feel silly at asking what some may consider a very basic question.

Thanks!

i think this is probly 1 of the best comment's on here .. im 23 and i started rabbiting when i was around 13/14 and there was nothing else for me .. i would be out in the morning with a few mates and the terriers, lurchers and ferrets. (deppending on what we we're hunting for) .. then i / we would be out lamping a few times a week.

i think no matter how much revision or reading you do its usless if you have no experiance.

i think you really need to try something first before reading too much in to forum's because 1 person's methods will differ to anothers .. but you will still have the same out come .. just that 1 person finds it easier to do it their way.

hmm hope that makes sence :hmm:
