fionn 21
Its black and white aint it. Im not going to lie about what she is because from her structure most if not all educated terriermen will know that she is not pure russell. The plan though is to put a good strong Russell dog over her and see how the pups turn out. I just need to find a dog to use that ticks all the boxes. no such thing as a pure russell she russell type one of her parents had russell in them or grandparents Edited August 13, 2010 by fionn Quote Link to post
Aeron 43
both the dog and bitch have to carry the white gene to produce white pups Quote Link to post

I just need to find a dog to use that ticks all the boxes. no such thing as a pure russell she russell type one of her parents had russell in them or grandparents Forgive me if im wrong as i am certainly no expert but the breed of black terriers is only just over 100 years old and as a structured breed as they are today it would only be around years old. Before this it was a mixture of all sorts including white terriers and white ilfracombe club terriers, so this shows that they have white in thier make up (be it 100 years ago). Peoples opinions on classification of type are obviously/mostly based on how the breed is TODAY, or for the people lucky enough for terriers to have been a family affair it would/could be based on the breeding over the last 50 years or so. The terriers around 100 years ago were not as they are today SO todays terriers are not exactly pure bred but more bred to an exact type that we have now. The reason i added the picture of my terrier is that in its gene pool it will carry some genes of russells be it 100 year old genes. Alot of black terriers have white feet or the cross on thier chest, I think 1 other pup out of the litter had these, Edited August 13, 2010 by webby 1 Quote Link to post

When you see her in the flesh All breeds of terriers come in all different builds is the point i'm making, my russel would probably make your bitch look like a whippet in comparison and i've seen short stocky pats built like brick shithouses, even some where the legs are bowed a bit, some that look like beddy's and some that look like staffs so there's no way the structure of a dog will give its breeding off imo. Bonny looking bitch though Quote Link to post
lurcherchris 5
Are the russells you've got from over the water or did you take them with you Smasher ? the type of russels i use, and have used were local, its what was used here before the black stuff became fashionable, its what i started of with and stuck to it,old habits die hard,i have also kept blacks and still do,i have no personal preferance of size, shape or colour as long as it does an honest days graft, and have been lucky enough to have seen some good terriers doing there thing over the years, and some of the better ones were never much to look at,but would have a place in my yard any day, Smasher your a disgrace! would you not smarten up that dogs line with a bit of wirehaired foxterrier blood or lakie? seriously you'd save yourself 100's of hour of digging and have a shed full of rosettes. surely the heading should be "show quality" rather than quality. For working terriers, quality isn't seen in form. AVERT YOUR EYES NOW    Work Quality Ha ha excellent. Reminds me of a russel a mate of mine had. he had bowed legs, short, ugly, long tail. He got him from a rescue home when he was 14. Everyone took the piss cos of how he looked but you couldn't fault his work. Brilliant ratter, mink terrier, fox dog. He would stay allday long. Quote Link to post
