FightTheBan 1,147
You wouldn't expect an athlete to win a race if he was unfit. So why would you expect an unfit lurcher to catch his quarry? An unfit lurcher serves NO purpose at all. FTB Quote Link to post
ryanmc 5
if you want to carry on in this game all that dog will do is pee you of get rid and get another, its not due to anything like early entering or anything but the dog doesnt suit hunting, you can throw a lot of people in a ring and most wont fight some will some wont, Quote Link to post
shushycatcher 219
my collie grey did exactly the same,he would pick and choose the rabbits he wanted to chase, but he would always chase and catch ALL the big stuff, everytime,i put it down to either early entering on my part,or too much collie, what i mean is he was very clever,i kept him til he died cos he was handy to have around the kennel but he was that frustrating i felt like shooting him sometimes!! I wouldnt keep another one like it tho,so personally i would get rid and get somethng with a dash of bull and saluki, atb Quote Link to post
bryson 562
Dont get rid and start again its not the dogs fault hes never been out in 4 months no offence mate but if you havent got the time to get out with the dog then i wouldnt expect much of him Quote Link to post
ASME IX 1
the picking and chosing of runs is some times seen with colie crosses, usualy in the older more experienced dogs(they know there limits and capabilitys). i dont know what sort of slips the dogs getting but make sure the bunnies have to run back towards you, dont be giving the dog runs were all the rabit has to do is is hop 10 yard and hit safety,do as bryson says, back to basics im afraid. asmeix Quote Link to post
Paul in North Lincs 15
Mine is similar.........I recon too much collie causes em to think about it too much rather than going hell for leather......also mine stalks like a collie does sheep......really fustrating when you want em to bang out of the slip like a missile!!!! lol Quote Link to post
all.rounder 3
get him fit.and don't fall into the same category as the fcukers that wont give a dog a chance.ones you go down that road you'll end up with a different dog every other month.as i said get him fit and give him a chance. ASME IX 1
definatly some real advice from you guys. my own heeler bitch had a wierd spell, seemed to be taking to many steps back,it can be disheartfull when things like this happends, the key is dont be afraid to ask and take one step at a time, its worth it in the end. iv seen guys give dogs away that have terrable faults, and in the end they kick them selfs when the new owner put a little time in and gets the dog back on track. asme Quote Link to post

snap 15
the fitness thing wont help him but imho a dog of that age and thats hardly done nothing thats picking and choosing its runs sounds like its heart isnt in it. like people have said it could be due to early entering and slipping it on no hopers. get him fit and keep him winning and see how he gets on,good luck Quote Link to post
bryson 562
I cant belive how some people would advise to get rid of there dog so easy for a promblem as little as this. dont listen to the crap mate just put the time in and im pretty sure you will be pleased with the results atb 1 Quote Link to post
