stubby 175
you ask whats better, snare or trap, have you got access to a shotgun/firearm, because without this, cage trapping is useless, probably good to have to hand if snaring also Quote Link to post

Cheers you can buy or make 50-100 snares for the price of a cage trap. snares and cage traps and collarums <baited snare> all have there advatages and disadvantages depends on the secomstances ,they all work well . Paul in North Lincs 15
............from my experience, red uns don't trap that easy. Better off with a snare, but make sure you know what your doing Quote Link to post

Urban Fox Control London 8
Traps for urban foxes everytime. Then a quick dispatch can be preformed. I use .22 eley sub sonics through a moderated rifle or pistol. Only problem is if you get a 'rougue' company release them, the foxes themselves show signs of 'trap-shyness'. The last resort is a night shoot from a 1st floor window into the back garden. A daylight survey should always be carried out to establish arks of fire, boundaries, back stops and ground type. Local Police ought to be informed in order to prevent any misunderstandings. I always get a reference number from the Police control room regardless of site to cover myself. The reason I am more cautious is because I am controlling urban foxes for business rather than for pleasure. Forgot to mention, FELIX CAT FOOD everytime !!! Jebus 3
cheers for the advice we'v set some more snares tonight so im guna see how they go then maybe give the cage ago What hight are you setting the snares at? Are you setting to bait (dead stuff, not alive!) This probably isn't the best advice: you do not need to use a firearm to dispatch a fox. A decent piece of wood to the head would do the trick immediately. There are no laws on what to dispatch foxes with, only codes of practice. Obviously you should adhere to these codes of practices, but there is no law regarding a type of tool to dispatch it with. Treat the fox with respect and don't do anything stupid. EDIT: I would always dispatch a fox in a snare with a shotgun, but different people have different views. Edited August 13, 2010 by Jebus Quote Link to post
nat 8
Thanks yeah dad would b sorting it out with a gun... Don't know what type. He'd do it cleanly so it would respected the snares been set at roughly 30cm off the ground... Is this right? We wernt using bait we put it in a gap in the hedge we'v seen it go through a few times cheers Nat Quote Link to post

I'm not sure cm but you should set the snare the width of your hand fully spread out. Put the side of your hand on the floor, spread your fingers out and set the snare so the bottom of the snare is just above your thumb. Quote Link to post
