watchman 256
handle it some more, then some more and then some more...........better off when they got a full stomach of fresh meat, less likely to nip then, sorry pal but that's how it is Quote Link to post
lee-kinsman 34
Does it hiss at you before it bites, does it make you bleed loads or is it just biting and letting go? Ferret kits usualy bite and bite and bite a bit like little puppies bit and bite and bite. Usually when a ferret bites properly you won't pick it up a secong time. Keep playing with it. The one 8,486
Feed it handle it let it run about the garden to burn up some energy then handle it .If you think its biting you just now wait till its older and bite's you if you haven't put the time in when its young Edited August 10, 2010 by The one Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
Most kits go through a biting stage .. as already advised keep the handling & good feeding up .. you will find once they pass that 6 month mark they will be a lot easier .. its just like a pup or a kitten when it comes to mouthing .. they simply need to know that they cant bite us like they bite there companions .. they do bite when playing anyway if you watch them there all mouth Quote Link to post
Quasar 1
Exactly what Lee-Kinsman said, I used to break in young kits for friends and you should see the state of my hands. oh and nose -lol ( thats another story ) Quote Link to post
Malt 379
Ferret kits bite in the same way as puppies and kittens do. When I read these threads I often wonder where all the 'Help, my puppy keeps biting me!!' threads are in the dog sections... You teach a ferret kit to stop biting you in a similar way you do with a puppy or a kitten. The more time you spend with them, the quicker they learn not to hurt you when mouthing you. Ferrets seldom actually want to do you harm, unless they're scared or in pain. Edited August 10, 2010 by maltenby Quote Link to post
jarv5116 57
just man up! allenyeates 3
As every one has said, just keep playing with it and handling it. No quick movements and never shy away from it. Always less reluctant to bite when they have a full belly as they are sleepy and another trick I also do is when I pick them up I spit on the back of my hand and put it to them , as this area is too large to bite they lick the spit and it settles them. I do this when handling strange adult ferrets or after picking up a jill when she has just had a battle with a rabbit. Wierd you may think, but I was shown this 35 years ago and it works. Try it!! earthdogrunningdog1986 0
Grab it by the scruff off it's neck turn it on it's back then the ferret should yawn and calm down and try to go asleep butt [bANNED TEXT] it's calm flick it on it's nose a couple of times and if u keep doing this thy will b tame sooner than u think Quote Link to post
