Whats FAR more "silly" is Saluki's at £1000 (not registered) and Doodle this and "Jug" that at £800!! Oh and a few chocolate Patts at £600! For the record I have turned down many thousands of pounds for my dogs, I have "orders" for 5 puppies and Ive never bred a litter! I have people that want my males semen in Canada, the USA and Australia as well as bitches travelling from the continent, guess what? I had him a Suprelorin implant so that HE would be happier and settled when my pup came in season. Pleased dont tar everyone with the same brush, for most reputable breeders, its not about the money. People are talking about it all being about money, thats wrong, If it were, Id be doing very nicely thank you! Lurchers are mongrels/crossbreeds, Patts/Fells etc.. are none recognised breeds or types, the Border is a recognised breed. Why are Salukis £800 each? Many will say they are difficult and temperamental, why do they demand a high price? Quote Link to post

Long may the patt-fell be unrecognised, Dawn you must of known it was just a matter of time before the big stick came out. Give her a break if she's not breading for the sake of it then whats it got to do with us what they do, it doesn't make them any worse for it, they're still very nice animals. It constantly amazes me the stick that's given out on here, when in trueth hardly anyone on here got the real Mcoy, if they suit Dawn Scent trailing then she's the only one they've got to please. Thats so true, Id not want the Patts registered, never!! I spend forever telling people they are working Terriers with exceptionally strong prey drive, still, some dont listen and end up with problems. Same with Borders, so many in Border Welfare come in because they chase, catch and kill furries! I knew somebody would have to have a go. Quote Link to post

TOPPER 1,809
cracking borders dawn but for lisa jenkens it is all about money i know lisa well she lives 5 minutes from me , your blue and tan is a dead ringer for my mates dog that lisa shows for him its just started doing kc shows and so far has got 2 seconds £500 to 650 for a pup is to much for most digging boys Quote Link to post
desertdog 149
at the end of the day, a dog can still be well bred, for the purpose it was bred to do, and incidently mine are registered, i dont show,if the breeders want to charge £500 -750+, that is up to them, i have been trying to keep the borders real, and the price realistic, oh yes it would be nice to have the dosh, but thats not what im about,my apologies dawn if this has offended you, i have bred workers hopefully, from workers, when i bought my bitch 8yrs ago she was £400, thats a lot of dosh,i did recoup that from her litter, but i took a chance on the breeder and it payed off, and thats the most i have ever paid for a dog, its only a piece of paper from the k,c,, i can do a pedigree if anyone needs its,i know where they came from, the dam is not registered, but i do know who bred her, and she is also from workers and i paid £180 for her. i expected to pay more, but i found a lad like myself, keep the kennel club and the crap they have bred over the years, they aint for me, dd Quote Link to post

In fact Borders are probably one of the cheapest pedigree breeds around if you consider all the others. Hope the pup does well for your mate, if you know the dogs reg name, Ill keep my eye open and say hello. at the end of the day, a dog can still be well bred, for the purpose it was bred to do, and incidently mine are registered, i dont show,if the breeders want to charge £500 -750+, that is up to them, i have been trying to keep the borders real, and the price realistic, oh yes it would be nice to have the dosh, but thats not what im about,my apologies dawn if this has offended you, i have bred workers hopefully, from workers, when i bought my bitch 8yrs ago she was £400, thats a lot of dosh,i did recoup that from her litter, but i took a chance on the breeder and it payed off, and thats the most i have ever paid for a dog, its only a piece of paper from the k,c,, i can do a pedigree if anyone needs its,i know where they came from, the dam is not registered, but i do know who bred her, and she is also from workers and i paid £180 for her. i expected to pay more, but i found a lad like myself, keep the kennel club and the crap they have bred over the years, they aint for me, dd No you havent offended me, I respect your opinion, I just didnt want another KC argument thread. My dogs mean a lot to me, I can take them shooting, ratting, Squirreling, bushing, tracking, showing, and in all those pursuits they do everything required of them, why should I not be delighted with that? Why, just because I dont do any digging anymore, are my dogs any less important to me than anyone elses is to them? If I want to pay for a KC registered puppy, why cant I? Its my business and nobody elses. My blue pup was given to me, I paid nothing. Edited August 11, 2010 by Dawn B Quote Link to post

It seems to me, as soon as you mention Borders on here all you get is s@@t comments about their working ability, the KC and the price of 'em. You'd think everybody with Patts, Fells & Lakies all had perfect working terriers which cost next to nothing. My Borders may have been a bit slow coming on but with a bit of patience i've got 'em going nicely. They suit my lifestyle and wouldn't be witout 'em. Great pics btw. Quote Link to post

I knew somebody would have to have a go. i dont have any problem with people wanting a high price for terriers as they are worth what the buyer is prepared to pay..if you really have your heart set on something you will pay it and if your not prepared to pay it ..then you cant have it.dawn dont think im having ago at you or your terriers as im not..your dogs are a stunning example of the breed. but i feel as far as working terriers go i very much doubt they will have the working ability of todays modern blacks(i think you called them mongrels). due to the fact most of todays working border blood has gone ..people keep the breed of terriers best suited to there needs ..i certainly wouldnt go down the border terrier route if i was looking for a serious working terrier.. maybe 30 years ago i might of..im not saying theirs no good working borders about as i know there is..but i think there few and far between nowadays which is a shame 1 Quote Link to post
