brainy 223
In the last month month I've found two of my jills dead in nest box they were about two year old. They were fine the day before they died it came out of the blue has anyone experienced this Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
I have in the past experienced ferrets dying in this way .. fine one min then you next go to them & one has gone ... Quote Link to post
TAXI DRIVER 549
You should have given them a vasectomised hob to take them out of season.Jills will remain in season untill served and will produce too mucch oestrogen which will kill them.I would say this is probably what`s happened to yours.Have they been mated to a vasectomised hob or had kits this year? TAXI DRIVER 549
You`re right there could be 100`s of causes of their deaths but the fact only his jills have died led me to offer some help/suggestions(which the bloke was asking for). Quote Link to post

mickmck 716
i had my gill and hob died exactlly the same way . ok one day then dead the next both curled up in their nest box , i have been told its a form of airbourne distemper , dont know how true this is ?? Quote Link to post
stubby 175
.Have you got any advice he may benefit from? animals die for the weirdest of reason, simply, unless he wants to pay for an autopsy to check why, then he'll never know then answer, he could get 100 different reason left on this post, but he'll never be given a deffinent answer from anyone but a vet I replied to your post because, it's yet again a statement saying that if jills are not mated/taken out of season, they WILL die, which in my eye's is not correct Quote Link to post

You weren't ruling anything out in your post mate, you were telling him what he should have done [vasectomised hob] . Then you said them remaining in season is "probably" what killed them. As Stubby wrote you were making assumptions and that is exactly how rumours start. I've noticed over the past couple of months there have been quite a few threads about ferrets dying, some have had kits others have been taken out of season so tell me what did they die of? Read Mickmck's post, he had a hob and a jill die, pity they they weren't both jills as we'd know the cause of death then. Quote Link to post

jarv5116 57
Lads and lasses whats the score with the vasectmised hob in with jills I had ferrets for years and my dad and older generations had them too! they neva had no probs! And 10 years ago I cant think of anyone who ever had a vasectonised hob! and all the jills were fine then. Will the jills generaly die after year or two if not bred? Quote Link to post
