Ideation 8,216 Posted August 8, 2010 Report Share Posted August 8, 2010 It really gets on my tits when folk get the rifle boys in to shoot their rabbits and they just body shot them with the wrong calibre on the lamp and leave them to waste rather than let someone ferret/lamp them and both remove the pest and make use of the meat/fur. As you said mate "pest"......and thats the reason that land owners/farmers want rid of them by any means. I'm pretty sure if a farmer had two choices put infront of him 1...Bigger rifle and leave to rot around the farm or 2.. Clean up with ferrets and take rabbits they would choose the latter. Farmers are'nt going to be to keen on lamping with dogs because of the problems they possibly would have had in the past, subaru's driving on their fields without permission. thanks to a lot of people on here shooting is also the most effective Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Yes its a bit of "1st come 1st served" really, suppose if the job is getting done to a satisfactory level for the client then might be hard to change there mind ..........i have done it myself i must admit, used to shoot a few a night for the buzzards in hope that they would give the poults a break. Olim - it's not the most effective method, there is no single most effective method. Shooting is something i use to mop up, after the land has been ferreted and snared, and neither of those methods involve driving over any fields and can be far more effective than shooting. Here i get a lot of permission for the ferrets because they don't want people driving over their fields or running dogs, but also don't want idiots with rifles wandering around. . . . . these days they seem to be giving out FAC's like their candy bars. No knock to serious shooters, it just works both ways. Thing that gets me is some folk think rabbits have no value and are just a pest to get rid of. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

The one 8,512 Posted August 9, 2010 Report Share Posted August 9, 2010 I share the shooting on one permission with a guy , and he told me he was round and shot a load next time i was there i was accused of shooting them and leaving them lying there was a lot of people not happy about seeing dead rabbits scattered about ,But i could prove it wasn't me and im still allowed there ,but thats the only thing about shared permission Quote Link to post Share on other sites
