IRHunger 0
I've just noticed another topic that was clearly designed to cause grief has just been pulled. Nice one, Mods. Clearly designed to cause grief? I think its interesting that a genuine poster can't pose a genuine question without being labelled a troll. Or a trouble maker. Why then have you come on to an airgun forum and ask what we think about racism? Alright Andy, The reason I asked was because I have a great passion for going out and hunting, I do it with my mates for fun and its also something I'd like to take more seriously. I found this forum, which appeared to be exactly what I was looking for, a community of what appeared to be like minded people who share an interest, swapping stories and even meeting and helping each other gain permission. I'm not white, and although I was born here, and have lived all my life here, I dont look typically british. So maybe I wanted to gauge what the general feeling was in and around the forum, before I begin to fully imerse myself. I could easily not have started such a topic, but then I wouldnt want to have arranged to meet someone who held certain prejudices. You could interpret this as an overreaction, but I was simply curious. Are you satisfied with my explanation? Quote Link to post

I can be similar, A member on here thought I was Asian when he saw my previous avatar Give me 5 minutes in the sun and I've been through all sorts of abuse in certain areas. The guy's in here are genuine, we do our best to get shut of the ones that begin to try to cause trouble my comment about our Jamboree is because this section has been labled "The boy scouts of the THL" Welcome aboard :welcomeani: Phantom Quote Link to post
andyfr1968 772
Fair comment. If what you're saying is true, I'm sure you'll have no grief from the folks on this section. I for one couldn't care less about what colour or creed you or anyone else is. I take as I find. End of. You can understand my reaction, I hope. This forum went public not long ago and there's been a few new members posting all over THL topics that are clearly ment to cause a reaction. Not good..... Enjoy the site and enjoy your shooting. Cheers. Quote Link to post

As I'm new I spent a bit of time reading up on what would be a decent starter rifle, so I picked up an Hatsan Model 60, with a 4x40 Nikko Sterling. Decent price for what I'm told is a decent rifle. As time goes on, and as my wallet allows I'll want to move up to a PCP rifle. Quote Link to post
markha 99
Welcome IRHunger. There was no need to intoduce race related thoughts on these pages as most dont give a whatsamodoo where you are from or what colour you are. We are all here to share our love of shooting and hunting. Enjoy the forums and once again, welcome. ATB Mark Quote Link to post
Phantom 631
The Hatsan mod 60 is maketed as an Egar Brothers mod 60. Your right, for the pretty low price its a decent rifle, the only thing that stoped me from buying when I came back to shooting was the trigger was a little rough (or so I was told). But as far as accuracy and ME goes, its more than capable a good choice overall How long have you been shooting bud? Phantom Quote Link to post

ATB Mark I can understand his caution though Mark, Like I said, I've had a fair amount of racist abuse and crap thrown at me since I was at school and I'm 'supposed' to be a purebred white english according to my mother, my brother on the other hand tells me different, but that could be him trying to stir things in an already 'fragile' relationship. But like you say, most, if not all don't give a flying feck about that sort of thing. Damn it it raining again, guess I aint going shooting this evening Phantom Quote Link to post
Sweeney-Todd 208
Hi IRH. Some nice reviews on the Hatsan mate ,what did you opt for, .22 or .177? Have you shot it much yet? Might pay to pull the barrel through if its a new one, then find what pellet it likes before you start to zero in earnest. Proberbley pay to put a tin through it and bed it in first though. Bill. Phantom Been shooting for only a few months now, a friend of mine has a (very) large garden in Cheshire, quite a few wood pigeons knocking around, but its mainly target practice at about 40m for now. Really looking to get permission on a farm, but from what I've read its not the easiest thing in the world to do. Quote Link to post

It's a .22. Ive put about 200 pellets through it so far. Mainly target practice. Could you explain pulling the barrel through? Maz Quote Link to post
Sweeney-Todd 208
Hiya Maz. Well sounds like theres no need to pull the barrel through if your hitting targets at 45yds A new rifle somtimes has thick oil in the barrel to protect it before export or sale. To pull the barrel through, use a piece of 50lb fishing line, long enough to bend in half, and push the looped end down from the muzzle the the breach, when you can see the loop, thread a piece of lint free cloth into the loop soaked in white spirit, wrap the soaked piece in a dry rag and get rid of the majority of the white spirit ( you dont want it dripping in the action or going all over the place )then take the two loose ends, and pull the cloth through the barrel, repeat a couple of times, then use a dry clean piece to dry ther barrel again. Fire 30/50 pellets through it then to re lead the barrel. A lot of folks have different oppinions on cleaning a barrel. From new, it somtimes helps, but you sound as though your doing ok now Bill Quote Link to post
gurtwurz 792
well i've come in late on this un(still bloody busy!)but my thoughts on the race thing are as follows theres two types of people in the world- good souls, and arseoles, luckily this sites full of the former!! these boys'll set you straight with any shooting issues mate, its why were all on here so no worries there, but you already know that by now. as to pull throughs, if you wanna spend a bit of money next time youre passing the gun shop, napier do a natty cleaning kit that'll do both inside and out of your pride and joy for about a score or so, otherwise get the fishing line as mentioned above. personally i leave the barrel as long as poss, and clean and lube my pellets instead to save fouling it up through constant use. all the best, wurz Quote Link to post
