Good news after bad leg-break

Recommended Posts

Just a post to say that even after a really bad break to her front leg my lurcher bitch is well on the mend. She broke both bones to her front leg last winter jumping a ditch in the snow and had to have her leg plated and pinned at an extortionate cost (she wasn't insured) ............But the good news is she is about 98% back to normal, so if anyone goes through a similar experience there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Took her and my other lurcher out today with the harvester with the hope of a few easy bunnies.........but rain stopped play and it was a joy to watch her hurdling the rows of straw at full pace as she had always done.........!

I know exactly what you went through fella I had a dog break his hock 1/2 way through the season before last and it took a lot of money time and effort to get him back amongst it and the dog had a very good season last ....pulling of some spectacular slips on some rough ground ....you cant wrap dogs up like this in cotton wool and you have to allow them to do what they were bred for .

All the very best this coming season and I know every time you slip your dog or see them jumping a fence or gate at speed your heart will be in your mouth hopeing the dog comes through a day or nights graft still in tact .

Thank you for all of your kind thoughts.........they are much appreciated. She is a such a relatively young bitch that it was NOT an option not to try and get her back to full health. She has given me so much pleasure as a faithful worker it was the least i could do to give her a chance.........some said the other option would have been easier........i don't think so. Yes it was hard work keeping her confined to a cage, lifting her here there and everywhere........but it was well worth the effort. I am looking forward to working her as normal this coming season. It is true my heart will be in my mouth watching her working and jumping fences and gates again.........but hey........she is a working dog and loves what she is doing so i certainly aint gonna stop her.......!
