Puppy with a broken leg

Recommended Posts

My Lurcher had a litter of puppies and the one that i decided to keep back for myself was playing in the garden, tripped over and broke his tibia and fibia..... After thinking about it i decided to give the little guy a chance and get him fixed up (rather than PTS).... Has anyone else had a pup that has broke its leg but gone on to be a worker???

Yes, this one broke her leg at 9 months when she was running, she had it operated on and fixed with screws

10 years later she is still here, and still active, not even a limp. Good luck with your pup, hope he makes a good recovery :)

If there's ever a good time for a dog to break its leg it's when it's a pup...the bones are still growing and should knit back together without any probs as long as you dont rush the dog. Had dogs and saw dogs break their legs as pups and go on to have no problems as adults.

Guest it's all my land after 12

In the early 80's G.A and R.W travelled down from yorkshire to breed the first litter of 1st cross pitbull x g/hounds, using one of the first pitbulls

imported to Britian one of the litter ( general) i remember belonged to a fella called John and i saw this dog at a show in Bickleigh just outside

Plymouth ..... he had a broken front leg which had mis-set and i recall stating to my mates " he'll never be any good " the following season my lamping

partner bought the dog and the break NEVER effected him and we were out 4,5 or 6 nights a week.... the reason being it was a 'greenstick' fracture

like children get the bones are still flexible and growing, like a young tree .....hence 'greenstick' if you try and snap a branch it does not snap

cleanly in breaks in places and not in others and left alone will heal... so don't worry...perhaps take advice on supplements that are high in calcium

magnesium etc that premote good bone growth/structure and leave the rest to nature. all the best IAMLA12.

A mates whippet broke the top part of its back leg running to the windows one bonfire night after the fireworks, it slid on the laminate flooring and its back leg was trapped under he setee, when it pulled it free it broke its leg, £1500 lighter in the bank, and £500 in physio, and had to take a season off from work, but now it runs as fast as it ever did, as yours is a pup it should heal really well

my close friends dog slade ran into another puppy when playing and broke his front leg about 2 years ago now he took it to be sorted and the put a plate and screws in his leg because it was on the lower part of his front leg it really looked awful with the plate sitting under the skin he was running after about eight months with the plate in but seemed to limp after and this is the pic of him after!! he has since had the plate out via a diffrent vetanary surgery and has made a full recovery and is out on a daily basis mooching and had a full and succesful season this one past!!!

it took alot of patience butv tthe dog got there in the end and has done him proud!! good luck with your pup i hope she comes right for you
