Malt 379
Aye, used the dead rabbit on more than one occasion. Also had the dead rabbit pulled from my hand and disappear down the hole... Quote Link to post

Coneytrappr 30
Yes some of the old ways certainly have their place and I use them as a 'first line of defence'...however when it comes to the crunch and your ferret is stuck behind a dead rabbit a locator is a handy piece of gear to have. para1 11
I wouldn't call it the old ways.Just the common sénse ways to retrieve your ferret without a dig.P1 1 Quote Link to post
CarraghsGem 92
should have named this thread "old and new tricks of the trade" lol Edited August 7, 2010 by CarraghsGem Quote Link to post
The one 8,503
Tried that and banging the spade on top of the burrow i always look at digging as a last option but if the stinkers are on there rabbit and you got to dig you got to dig Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
Like others i use both. I do a squeak when i feed the little stinkers, and when i want their attention, as long as you reward them when they come to it, they soon get the idea. Banging a stick also works, because it stimulates their natural interest, and the final resort of jumping up and down like an idiot on top of the warren (in the old days). But like has been said, no amount of that will get the ferret out of a sunken pit, or out from behind a dead rabbit. I know a few folk who have one locator collar and work a few jills without them, if a ferret doesn't come up they run an old hob through with a collar and he will find her and either chase her out or stick with her. Kind of like and old and new combination, a modern liner hob. Quote Link to post
Jamie m 668
When we were kids my mates dad always said don't forget your spade when we asked him what for he said to whack the keeper with while you leg it , was always a bit nervy as when we got off the estate we would have to wait for the bus to come and then once we were on it would be two fingers up to the beaters and keeper as we pulled away . Ah pre permision days very hairy Quote Link to post
