what are your oppinions on conformation of the most prolific catchers of hares/rabbits.i have noticed over the years most of the best dogs are slightly lower at the withers/shoulder than at the hips, i.e shorter front legs than rear, same as the hare really, they seem to be more agile, turn better than dogs which are taller in front legs. keep it sensible please!!!

i think this bitch in the particular photo shows an example of what is meant, but in reality, other photos she is very straight backed and uniform, yes there is prob hundreds on here but they are more strike a pose type photos as it were rather than showing the dogs true conformity so can be difficult, especially to us with the un-trained eye to see,i personally have only ever had one previous dog that it was quite noticeable in,21"tts bullxlurcher, absolute mustard dog on all quarry and could turn on a penny but not being experienced enough i would not have known that it was because she was quite low at the shoulder, about time i started mixing with lads that know their stuff i think lol

yes i have noticed dogs that are lower at the front. i havent had any so i dont know if it makes for a better hunting dog. i think good legs are a must and a long back. i have a breed that is short on back so i lose the speed ,but she has good legs so that helps

A mate used to have a F1 Beddy Grey years back that took this to the extreme, built like a fecking 'dragster', this dog was an excellent catch dog. This lad was a profit hunter, this dog made him a pretty penny up Scotland. It had only one vice, would drop to ground in a flash and was dug out of the 'bigger' places many times.

What I would say is that IMO, i've noticed dogs that, when standing (normally/relaxed), dogs that have their back legs well under 'em (giving the impression of lower withers), for the most part, have been good animals and thinking back, have had good agility but i'd never put it down to this alone. The most agile bitch i've ever clapped eyes on, is Timmyk's off here, lurcher to lurcher bred, i suppose i've never looked at her conformation like that, (she's never still long enough!), she is a bonny bitch, you bet I will now!!

;)
