korthals griffon

Recommended Posts

Hi, just after a little bit of info on this breed of dog the korthals griffon, is there anyone on this site that owns them and works them? are they any good for pointing flushing and retrieving? most of all do they get on with kids well and other dogs and are they easy to train, I have seen a program about them that said yes to nearly everything, but theres nothing like a honyst answer from a owner.

also dose anyone know of any breeders of these and a rough price? thnx

Pal, I myself have a gsp, but the korthal griffon is a pointer/retriever thats what they do. I know they are quite headstrong to train, they are relatively expensive roughly £1200 and normally the breeders will have a form of contract to stop you breeding them, and they are quite stringent to regards of letting them go to working homes. If I was you I would look at what you require the dog to do and also consider the conditions you want such as good with kids etc. I paid £600 for my gsp who is bred from sanjon lines and I would not want anything else.

dam id of thort if they are bred to work then anyone breeding them would want them to go to working homes, and y not breed from them ur self, that aint upto the breeder, not that id be intrested in breeding unless i wanted a new pup when mine gets older. thats also a lot of money eh, but if u get what u want out of it then price aint everything.

would i be right in thinking and saying that the wirehaird pointer is th same dog, or are they diffrant? I was intrested in the korthals griffon because i heard its only ment to get to about the size of a lab and that size is just about right for me, and i like that look of them. Im wanting for pointing flushing and retreiveing, must be good with kids and other dogs and fairly easy to train.

thanks for the info liftboy

Just thought i`d let you know some more info on korthals, my mate looked in to getting one, what they are smaller more placid german wirehaired pointers, but are a different breed mind, they have not been over here long, they are a good hpr, but the price + breeding restrictions are a bit annoying for me. I would go for a gsp if I was you, they are brilliant with kids, good hard workers, they look the part and not to expensive. I bought a sanjon bred pup and he is brilliant. Just my opinion mind.

They look similar to a GWP but are a totally different breed.

Lovely dogs though; I've shot over a wonderful bitch that's no longer in the UK, but I don't have much experience of the dogs other than one in Holland that was an absolute cracker.

The Korthals is a very good dog for wildfowl and thankfully they havn't been over here long enough for them to be ruined.

If you want a dog that's great with children you might be better off with a vizsla from good working stock. Regards - see http://www.korthalsgriffonclub.co.uk for further info. I'm running in the Korthals clubs Grouse pointing test on 11/08 so i'll ask for further details for you.
