Never shot the mach 2 but reading about it dont see the point .Hmr all the way.

i must admit its not a choice i had even thought of but the guy down the range says the ammunition is half the price of hmr and very similar results flat trajectory and better range than a hmr only issue i can see is there aint many about.

Don't be taken in by all this flat trajectory talk about the .17....it takes a bit of finding out several hundred rounds later when you,ve sussed it,just the windage to sort out then:laugh:.In perfect conditions the .17 is a good gun but for me my .22lr will always be the workhorse in my cabinet.

You'll have to put in for the relevent sound moderators you require, reason to give is "hearing protection"...:)

so when you say relevent sound moderators you mean specify what cal. you require it for or the model????? do i just tell the FAO When he comes or do i have to apply for them????

Erm.....

With the .22 rf calibres, you don't have to specify which. The certificate application purely asks for calibre, so .22 short, .22 long, .22lr and .22wmr are all covered by the ".22" slot. The .17 HM2 is still a .17 calibre, so I don't think there's any need to specify which specific chambering you want.

You need a slot on your FAC for each calibre of sound moderator you want. They go on the cert application the same as a rifle does. The FEO should talk you through the application.

i didn't put down any Mods on my application does this mean i cant have them should i have put mod's in the firearm section where i put the rifle and cal information?

You put them down as if they were a separate firearm e.g.

.22RF Rifle

.22 Moderator

.17RF Rifle

.17 Moderator

It entirely likely that the mod you buy won't be calibre specific (SAK's for example only come in .22 but work fine on a .17) but it doesn't matter.

My cert when it came back said ".17HMR Rifle" and then "Moderator for .17RF Rifle" and so on.

If you haven't applied for them, I'd ring your FLO/FEO quickly, it's not a problem for them to add them on if you've applied for the guns for pest control/vermin (same goes for expanding ammo - which you need a condition on your FAC to be able to buy).

Just called the Firearms Dpt and they have noted on the system that MOD's will be required for all Cal. and that i should mention to the FEO that they are required as a reminder.

many thanks for all your help and i hope it all goes smooth i get well nervous when he comes around!!!!

someone said to me once that if you get nervous around the police then your innocent only true criminals remain calm lol dont know how much truth there is in that but i am sticking with that idea :-)

"The Usual Suspects", the guy that sleeps through his night in the cells is the guilty one.

It's quite natural to be apprehensive for the visit but I can guarantee when you come out the other end, you'll think "Well, that wasn't so bad, don't know what I was worrying about" - we've all been there.

Getting back to the .17 debate, the only advantage of the Mach2 is that ammo is cheaper than the HMR, hardly the way to select a rifle! :hmm:

I run a .22lr, .17HMR and .22WMR, I have a use for them all, but so far I have not found any situation where I needed a Mach2.

The OP's question was regarding whether to apply for one or the other. I'm fairly sure you can have either on the ticket with a .17 calibre conditioned.
