Guest Anubis
The name Alaunt is just a name used once in history to discribe a mastiff type...notice i use the word type there not a breed or line but a type of mastiff (Alaunt) The more racey type's would have be classed as the Alaunt gentil type...Running mastiff...used for the chase. The bigger type used at the end of a hunt to despatch big game were called Alaunt de boucherie..butchers dog bulldog type. The american bulldog would be of this type and the biger boned alaunts we see about. Anyone genuinely interested in this type of dog and would like to gain some knowledge read Hancocks The Mastiffs..The big game hunters great read. Edited August 9, 2010 by Anubis Quote Link to post
longbow 14
That's a cracking looking dog Longbow I love the look of it, what's in it's breeding? how's it coming on? Thanks for the interest, She is a result of a mating between an alaunt female and a deerhound/greyhound dog. (accident or design I am not sure!) Litter mate to the alaunt/deerhound pictured at the bottom of Anubis post. She is a joy to own thus far, loyal for one thing. Only 15 months so done nothing hunting wise,(my choice) but then the darker nights & the softer ground is just around the corner. Anubis, You do take a good photo, do you do dog portraits? If anyone else out there reading this went down to wiltshire last summer to buy a pup out of this litter (there were 10 in total) Feel free to put up a pic it would be good to see them now. Cheers.
