Guest Buttermilk
I personally think some people think that their dogs , if they are working dogs , should hate cats and want to kill any thing that moves. To me this would be a nuisance , I think most dogs would chase a cat as they would anything else of the same size as a matter of fact , however wether or not they would kill them is another matter as a cat can be a fair opponent. Best thing to do is train ya dog not too as too many people again thnink terriers are a law unto themselves and cant be trained. Terriers are dogs just like collies etc and if they are trained properly there shouldnt be a probvlem. Now I am gonna get some replies saying" hey , my dog goes totally deaf when he is working and takes no notice of me" well I dont subscribe to that , theese dogs in my opinion are in charge of their owners. I agree with you totally. Our two Nuttal terriers were head strong little blighters and 100% workers but they wouldn't touch cats. Not just our cats...anyone's cats. If you train your dog properly there's absolutely no need for dogs to be attacking domestic cats. It's not the dog that's to blame, it's the owner. I notice some people on this thread refer to their dogs killing cats in their neighbourhood. I'm sure they think it's of no real concern and that domestic cats are 'fair game' etc, but our elderly neighbour had her cat killed by two terriers last year in the field at the back of her house. She is 81, her husband died after a long drawn out battle with lung cancer and her cat was her much loved companion. It was horrendous..they ripped the cat (who was a soft as butter and 12 yrs old) to pieces whilst the idiot owners looked on.Nothing could be done to save the cat and Mrs D. was in shock and totally inconsolable. She still is....she can't get over how her cat died and it's affected her health badly. These cats are peoples' much loved pets. How would you feel if an enormous Pit was on the loose ripping your terriers to bits when they were out and about. It's totally unacceptable. I completely agree with you both, our other terrier will sit within an inch of our rabbits and be shaking all over with anticipation ready to pounce but will not move a muscle as he has been told to stay Quote Link to post
