bullmastiff 615
For a nervous pup, buy yourself a crate (dog Cage) so it's got somewhere it can go to get away. Cover it with a blanket/towel so it's dim, close and secure. Tell the family if it's in it's cage not to bother it at all. and just spend time with it. Let it get used to the house first before taking it out and socializing it. I'm sure I read somewhere to ignore really nervous dogs for the first week? no talking to them, no strokes, commands, nothing. Let the dog settle in. Feed times put the food in the bowl and just sit quiet somewhere near the bowl, once they've finished, let them out and wait for them to come back in but don't call them in. No walks outside the house/garden. After the first week start talking to them at feed times, reading a book out loud is the easiest way, then just gradually build up your interaction with the dog. Look up positive training methods online. Good Luck with the pup. Quote Link to post
Simoman 110
Strip naked and lather yourself in peanut butter and allow the dog to lick it off, it wont make any difference to the pups confidence but you will enjoy it......... Quote Link to post
Guest stewie
need help just bort a lurcher bitch it 7 mouth old and it is very nerves how every had it before me gave a tuff life how can i get it bk on track so it cums to me and make not nerves soz about my spellings why buy it, if you knew it was nervous.? having a dog like that, is always going to alot harder to bring on, than norm temp of a pup. Take it back, and start again with confident pup, make life easy on your self+pup. well said mate take it back or to a dogs home you have enough against you with a well bred pup with a proper temperament never mind an unstable 7 month old thats doomed before you start. start again and shop around before you buy this time. BUT if you do keep the bitch good luck, you will need it Edited August 5, 2010 by stewie Quote Link to post

Just out of curiosity did you use the peanut butter method? I prefer crunchy as the dog nibbles your flesh whilst grabbing those tasty nut morsels. I'm getting goosebumps at the thought........ I can confirm this too and have had personal experience. Good luck with the pup and just spend time getting to know her and bonding with her for the first few weeks, she's really young....honestly, you'll see a different dog in a couple of months. However, not all pups are so lucky. I'm sure you're not suggesting that this pup ought to be 'written off' at 7 months....? Quote Link to post
Guest stewie
No not at all but it will never reach its maximum imo. Takes alot to get a good dog anyway this one has alot against it before he even starts training it to sit, stay etc Quote Link to post
