lurcher bitch need help

does the dog live in kennels or in the house? Do you have any other dogs? If you have other dogs DO NOT let the new bitch spend any more than a few minutes with the other dogs, they are pack animals and you need to establish that you are the ONLY pack member for this new bitch. Good luck, be patient, it will be hard going but it CAN be done.

Personally I can't gel with a nervous dog and training/entering and living with such a dog is a ball ache..........

My greyhound bitch was very nervous when she arrived 2 yrs ago, i simply crated her & sat by the cage on the floor & offered her food from my hand ... i did this for weeks & she eventually started to gain confidence... the thing is she is now a confident little bitch that i wouldn't be without & has a sunny disposition

 

Having said that my bitch still has problems when i walk her down the gulley to get to the main road .. it has a bend in it & she wont walk on the inside & simply walks round to my other side ... i assume she was shoved in the sidings when she raced at some point .. but other than that not a great deal phases her now

My point is, the pup has no confidence NOW....and if you're any sort of decent dogman you'd surely realise this can be rectified.

I didn't mean 'big' as in height by the way, I meant 'big'....some men can be short in stature but huge in other areas.

I received a Saluki x male, about 15 months old, I picked him up at the beginning of May this year, Nervous, No confidence, recall Zero, and the way I got into this dog was, by good feeding, (a bonus for me he had a good appetite,)good exercise, and plenty of it,

and were ever I went I took the dog with me, and then I started exercising, him with me on a push bike, as he grew stronger, and fitter his confidence, grew he started to come out of his shell, and I was running him on rabbits at daybreak, each morning, his recall was a

hit and a miss, and some times he would come right into me when I was schooling him, ((( and a couple of times, he totally ignored me,

very disappointing, when this happened, and I was going to throw, the towel in and then I changed my mind at the last moment, ((( I am pleased I kept a hold of him,, ((( he can run and has a tremendous recovery, from a hard run, less than a minute, so be patient, try to take her with you as much as possible, build her energy, and fitness, up gradually,and you will see, as she gets stronger, her confidence will grow as well, and with luck, you could make something out of her,, ((((( but keep cool at all times, No sudden harsh movements, and calm voice,, (((( my dog is not there yet but improving, his confidence is there its just a Saluki, TRAIT,

good on you i suppose its how much patience you have personally i like a dog that you can be yourself with as i find i get along better with that type and then if you do lose it in the field when summat goes wrong the dog wont bolt into the next county!!!! i gave away of a good little bitch for this reason i just couldnt handle treading on egg shells all the time i only had to shout at my terrier and that was she would feck about all day cowering from me or not coming back to me and i never even shouted at her as said each to there own
