R.I.P Diego Corrales a tough guy from a tough backround. The Earle v Katsidis fight was good too watch, although Earle was well over matched, also Jamie Moore v Matt Macklin was a good fight. Yeah Earl vs. Katsidis was brilliant to watch, and how could I forget about the Macklin vs. Moore bout I was in a boozer in Macklin's area watching that, roaring the place down we were. I think Macklin would beat Moore now though.

gnasher16 30,216
DONT know how to put clips up but for me HAGLER V JOHN THE BEAST MAWGABI John Mugabi was one of the biggest wastes of talent ive ever seen,he would have beaten Hagler in that fight if he had more belief in himself but he was a strange fella i remember seeing him at the Royal Oak gym back around 84 Mickey Duff had brought him over and he was sparring with another Duff fighter some might remember named Cornelius Boza Edwards, they were light sparring even though Boza was only a lightweight and Mugabi was light middle at the time.....Mugabi couldnt lay a glove on him and he lost his rag and got out the ring during a round.I was knobbing about on the pads elsewhere and out the corner of my eye saw what looked like a playground pile up on the floor outside the ring.Mugabi had waited for Boza to get out the ring then jumped on him when his back was turned !....It was something i never forgot,he was childlike in some ways yet when his mind was on the job he was unstoppable. As for comebacks,Ray Mancini was a fighter i loved to watch who was in some great comeback fights, one of which tragically ended in the death of his opponent......but a great fighter to watch nonetheless. Ahh mate, just thinking about how the sport of boxing used to be compared the the Business it's became these days. All that tradition, all that history, all them heroes from the past and now look at the sport .

All that tradition, all that history, all them heroes from the past and now look at the sport . I still have a passion for the sport and i dont think its changed that much over the years.....what has changed is the characters, back then it was a massive thing for a young fighter who they signed with be it Duff,Lawless,Solomons,Jarvis Astaire,Mike Barret etc it was all who dangled the biggest carrot in front of you,now for youngsters if you dont sign with Frank Warren you failed ! There was so many trainers, managers and promoters,so many gyms.....nowadays we have gone the american way of pushing all good fighters onto a handful of trainers/managers etc......the game has lost its sense of area rivalry in place of individual success, which is a shame. I have lost touch with it over the past few years but I still love the sport. I've got around 600 video tapes in the loft with 1000's of fights on them, I was obsessed with the sport at one time, but getting the best to fight the best these days seems to be more of a struggle than it has been in the past. It's true what you say about Warren, he's cornered the sport in this country. I remember Panix Promotions used to be Warren's main rival at one time, but since Lennox f****d them off, all their other fighters seemed to do the same and jumped ship. I really enjoyed boxing through the 90's but there isn't really that many match ups that excite me these days.

Yes i can understand that....although i will say Frank Warren has been great for British fighters. Just out of interest i used to collect a lot of old fight films myself,as you probably know Jim Jacobs who was part of tysons old team had the biggest collection in the world at one stage,it got past down when he died and his son or gr son i forget which, sold them all off....a fiend of a friend managed to get some historic old fights that are worth a fair bit now.....so a collections always worth holding onto

No,what was that and when was it ?....Jack was a little before my time although i was told many stories about him.As a small child my father introduced me to him after the Cooper/Clay fight which he promoted though i dont remember it at all i was too young and not jewish enough for him to pay me much attention His highlight was promoting the Sugar Ray Robinson/Randy Turpin fight which my old dad won a small fortune betting on Turpin at something like 33-1 ! About the middle 60s,Jack would show clips of old fights, his personel top tens in all weightsIt may be on the internet somewhere, there was a couple of small time boxing promoters in Leicester who i knew in the 60s George Biddles and Buddy Thomas. Buddy took me to meet sonny Listen at London road station in 68,i met Joe Bugner around the same time, both struck me as being a bit unpleasant.

My Granddad was in a boxing booth and was watching the action back in the day, and Turpin walked in. He said Turpin had two ladies with him and was dressed like a film star, real smart like. He said everyone was cheering for Turpin to get in the ring with the Fare ground fighter, but Turpin was laughing it off and didn't really want to. He was eventually persuaded to get in the ring by the crowd and my Granddad said that the Fare ground fighter was trying all he could to land a punch on Turpin but Turpin was slipping and blocking everything the guy tried to hit him with He chose not to hit the Fare ground fighter but didn't let him land a glove on him, just dazzled the guy without even having to hit him back hahaha
