THE FERRETS ARE BABIES!!

You have to get them well fed and used to you! Not need to hit them, just handle them alot.

You don't need to get new ones all babies are the same until trained.

Believe me a 9 week old kit cannot give a proper ferret bite. :wallbash:

Last year when I were taming my kits if they bite me id give them a little flick on the nose not to hard as there kits and that worked they dont bite at all.

But this year got a new kit the more I handle her the more she bites :(

flicking on the nose can make it worse imo , if you flick a ferret on its nose its like hitting it with a baseball bat, if you are wary of picking them up they will sense it if the kit nips you dont put it back in the cage or floor as it will learn that biting gets him free, kits dont bite that hard anyways imo , plenty of handling, more handling & they will learn hands are good & not food , dont give up on them & , have u tried spittin on ur hand & letting the ferret lick it off ( old wives tail)& then stroke him/her gently, ferretone is another uselful bribe used in moderation it may help, make a fist & offer the back of you hand to the ferret so theres not much top grab onto if he/she nips

just my 2 pence worth what i was told, give them time & they will come round gl & dont give up on them . regards john

when it bit me i put it back but only because it was tring to bite me agane it bit me 3 time this morning and i was bleeding but befor they only niped and that was not that bad so will tha new kit be just as bad

its a catch 22, a fert nips and your less happy to pick it up and handle it, because of this, it nips/bites everytime you pick it up,

handling is the key here, my daughter will pull kitts out at 8 weeks old, and take them to her bedroom to play, they soon learn not to nip,

too many people think picking them up for 10 minutes a day, will result in a non niping, biting ferret, if you aint got at least a couple of hours spare per day, every day to handle play with your ferts, Id give up now, as getting yet another fert wont make any difference

FFS, grow some balls and get on with it you mardy arse ! It's a kit for gods sake! I was once shook like a wet rag by an enormous scrap yard Alsation,am I scared of dogs, no! not a bit.

I've been bitten properly by my albino ferret when I tried pulling her off a dead, ferreted rabbit up after I'd gutted another rabbit with bloody hands.. icon_eek.gificon_redface.gif I mean proper savaged. Repeatedly bitten hard enough to tear the skin, not a bite off a playing kit..

That's one mistake I'll never repeat again...

Saying that, she was a c**t for biting until I got over my own fear of her biting me, I was nervous and she knew it. Getting into the ferret court pissed up at 4 in the morning to play with the ferrets after I was locked out worked wonders in that respect.... :clapper: She's been an angel ever since.

Worst bite I ever had was off a huge polecat hob, belonged to a mates dad, back in them days some of the old boys thought handling a ferret was grabbing it round the neck , pulling it out the cage throwing a dish of bread and milk in followed swiftly by the ferret. Anyway was out ferreting, out came the ferret from the hole, it was a freezing cold day and I miss timed my grab, the bast got me round the thumb, canines right into my thumb joint all the way to the bone. It chomped and grinded away for what seemed like forever, blood oozing out of both corners of it's mouth, and I'm sure the bast had a smile on it's fecking face, I was running up and down the ditch looking for a rock to kill it with when it relaxed it's jaw for a better grip and I snatched it off, threw it along the ditch and as I was scrambling out the bloody thing was running back towards me for another go ! Ah the good old days ! Didn't put me off ferrets, but it certainly put me of that one ! :D

Worse bite i had was similar to you guys, had a very excited jill who decided she was going to lock onto my hand - felt the teeth grind against the bone. A Kit can't bite properly, i picked up three recently and of course they nip, first day had some bleeding knuckles, by day three very little nipping and by the end of the week i could really wrestle with them with my fingers and stick a finger in their mouths and no bites. I really don't get how people have kits still at 10, 12, 16 weeks that they can't handle. . . . . if you do it right it only takes a couple of days. Also they are baby ferrets, stop being such a pussy. Anyone ever been bitten by a rabbit? Hurts like a motherfucker.

These kits are not old enough to bite hard, so just handle them

kits do nip and bite, but like i say to all the people i meet at ferret shows, if ur scared of them they will sense it nad the more handling the better and if ur willing to keep the animal you WILL push though the pain.

One of my first 2 ferrets(both rescues) but my silver mitt(2 years old) bit when i first got them 10 years ago was a little s***t get him out the cage fine, go near him when he was out he would fly at you, one day he bit me on the finger right into the bone as well, but i perservered and he was lovely ferret end so much i could put him in a babys pram and wouldnt bat an eyelid,
