bedlington or plummer?

Recommended Posts

It'll have to be a rum old beddy to have a better nose than most plummers but your probebly right about temperment, but saying that socialization when a pup is a must with any breed of dog.Seen some very good retrieving plummers and know of a couple that won't ever be shown up on a peg on shoot day by any breed of gun dog.

My bedlington is a natural retreiver, has a brilliant nose and very sociable.

On the down side, she prefers to hunt in the open, i think that could be a product of only hunting with a lurcher and she can turn a deaf ear at times but i don't think it is intentional.

all my plummers retrieve naturally. wish my lurcher was as good. gotta say they dont like letting go without a tug of war  they have good noses and speak in cover. they can be a little gassy though. allthough ive seen beddies that like a scrap as well. a well trained plumer would be hard to beat.

I got both.Only one line of Plummers seem to retrieve with no trainning,my Beddy does'nt.My Plummers and Beddy all bush to a high standard, they all ferret, some Plummers better than others, the Beddy is good(may even become as good as my late Plummer dog or my aged Border, only time will tell). The Plummers have the edge on the ratting. The Plummers all earthdogs, the Beddy not old enough yet.

Beddy are easier to live with than the Plummers. All off um need patience.

plummer's or russell's are both good at rats and rabbits, both will crash through the cover in pursuit of anything thats in there,so long as they've got a good nose they'll always find,we've had day's were the terrier's catch more than they bolt for the guns,if you get one from a decent working strain they'll work anything, all the best, wirralman

The modern bedlington was created for showing. Years ago they were bred for general vermin control I reckon like most other terriers wether it was above or below ground. Any terrier breed thats had miniature poodle added to it is pretty much fecked imo.
