Trigger 26
my dogs been going out lamping since 8 weeks old and has been lamping on his own since 4 months old. caught his first rabbit at 5 1/2 months old and his first hare at 6 months 1 week on the lamp. your beddy/whippet will be fine to work this winter imo. edited to say. buy the end of my first season my dog was 8 month old and finished his last 7 nights of the season by catching 114 rabbits. danman 27
lamping at 8 week old are you f*****g stupid, give the dog time to grow up physically and mentally and i doubt it caught a fully grown fit hair at 6 months old. Quote Link to post
NOOK/ANNA 96
My pups must always be slow to mature cause i usually use the 12 month mark to enter them to game. Never seen the point in rushing them as you could end up ruining them. Edited August 3, 2010 by NOOK/ANNA Quote Link to post
danman 27
sounds about the right age nook to me. Quote Link to post

Ideation 8,216
If your pup is physically mature enough to not be damaging its muscles, ligimants, joints and bones, by running flat out, can retrieve a full grown live rabbit and has spot on recall enough to be lamping with. . . . .at 3.5-4 months . . . . . . . its a freak of nature. Why would you want to lamp a puppy. . . . ? I understand showing it things and letting it watch and learn etc, but any flat out work . . . . . . . . Quote Link to post

CarraghsGem 92
im just starting my 12mth old collie x whippet now, doing a bit of daytime mooching, havent caught anything yet but it doesnt worry me as my permission is very rough, rocky, hilly ground. as for the young pups i wont be bringing them out till at least 6mths, even then it will be for 20-30min runs during the day until they are 8mths then i will run them with the other bitch IF i think they are mature enough. dont expect anything serious from the 2 young pups this season, and i hope the 12mth old pup makes the grade Quote Link to post
Guest Buttermilk
ive had my pup out since 3 months just mooching loose with older dog, she got her rabbit at about 4 month when the older dog pushed it out the bush towards her. she is about 8 and half month now and has had about four daytime rabbits, not done any lamping yet bar retreving dummy on the lamp. she ran a fully grown big rabbit last week when the older dog pushed it out the ruff into a big field. i was very suprised how quick she got on terms with it and stuck with it for about 30 seconds before it got thru a hedge. here she is 3/8 5/8 collie grey. oh she has never made a squeek when chasing either, i think a lot is to do with it been in the dog already. This is more or less what happens with our Lurchers...we always have an older bitch and the pup just watches her all the time and takes her lead from her. Quote Link to post
